| The Sunday Solano Stroll has been in full swing for decades and is considered a “Local Legacy” in the United States Library of Congress, thanks to Congresswoman Barbara Lee. This year marks the 50th anniversary, and it will be splendid with booths, music, and delicious food! Gather your family and friends to amble, ramble, and walk one of the biggest block parties in the Bay. Visit our booth located on the north side of the street, just east of Ensenada Avenue. We’ll have lots of fun merchandise for sale, including our 10th edition map, our new T-shirt, and more. Come say hello and share your path stories with us! We’d love to see you! |

"Paths of Berkeley" by David Lance Goines |
| In 2011, the Hillside Club commissioned a limited-edition poster from Berkeley’s own David Lance Goines to help Berkeley Path Wanderers Association with its fundraising. A nationally known graphic artist, printmaker, and rabble-rouser, Goines passed away in February 2023 at age 77. The beautiful, sturdy "Paths of Berkeley” poster (above) is 16 by 24 inches (unframed). A limited supply of posters will be available for purchase at the Solano Stroll booth for $40 including a cardboard tube. |

Join the Berkeley Path Wanderers Association on Saturday, Sept. 19 from, from noon to 2 p.m. to celebrate the 95th birthday of BPWA co-founder Jacque Ensign! Jacque was one of BPWA’s original four founders. In late 1997, Jacque, Ruth Armstrong (Moskovitz), Patricia DeVito, and Eleanor Hall Gibson began meeting to form an organization to advocate for Berkeley's beloved paths network. The rest is history! Sharing! Attend the El Cerrito Trail Trekkers' Public Paths Festival - September 26 & 27 |
| Enjoy exploring paths outside of Berkeley by attending the El Cerrito Trail Trekker’s Public Paths Festival. Five hikes led by knowledgeable leaders will explore “hidden creeks, neighborhoods of fine homes, riparian habitats, and historic spots.” This free weekend event is a great way to wrap up September! |

In August, Berkeleyside highlighted Upper Columbia Path, a new path that our builders and volunteers are hard at work creating. In the article, David Gyorke discusses the importance of designing the path to ensure proper stormwater management. Hum a tune while you walk the paths! Perhaps “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day? Recently, Berkleyside covered Green Day guitarist and Berkeley resident Jason White’s love of the Berkeley paths. |

Elevation gain: 1,000 ft
Accessibility: Most of the hike is on dirt trails, with some stairs, sidewalks, and streets in between. Well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome. No public restrooms available on the route. Start the weekend off with a fun ramble through El Cerrito's gems, the Hillside Natural Area and Motorcycle Hill. The trails are fairly strenuous so wear good shoes and bring hiking poles if you use them. Read more |

Meeting Location Details: Entrance to Remillard Park on Poppy Lane (near Keeler Ave.), near the climbing rock.
Distance: 6 miles
Elevation Gain: About 900 feet
Accessibility: Fast-paced. Sidewalks, several paths, several steep uphill roads. Not accessible for wheelchairs. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome. Restrooms are unavailable. We will meet at the entrance to Remillard Park on Poppy Lane (near Keeler Ave.) for this fast-paced hike covering 12 (7 uphill, 4 downhill, and 1 flat) paths. Read more |

Meeting Location Details: We will meet at the end of the parking lot at South entrance to Lake Temescal Regional Park. This is the entrance on Broadway Terrace, not the North entrance on Broadway. Limited parking is available in the lot (may be a $5 fee April-October); street parking on Broadway Terrace. For street parking, allow time to walk down the dirt path or the driveway to the parking lot meeting spot.
Distance: 3.25 miles
Elevation gain: 550 feet
Accessibility: 781 stairs and some very steep parts (up AND down) with no handrails, some poorly maintained streets and stairs, and one dirt path with no handrails (could be muddy depending on weather). Strenuous! Bring water. Bathrooms available at Lake Temescal start/end. No dogs. Explore Upper Upper Rockridge on this strenuous and fast-paced walk featuring “secret” stairs, murals, and an architectural mix of pre- and post- 1991 Oakland Firestorm homes. Read more |

Accessibility: Some uphill outbound on sidewalks and road. Well-behaved dogs on leash okay. No restrooms.
Meeting Location Details: Meet at the gate in front of St. Albert's Priory. This walk re-creates the history of early 20th century Temescal Valley above College Avenue. We'll go at a slow pace and stop at several historical points of interest along this 2.7 mile route. Read more |

Do you enjoy working with your hands and seeing tangible results of your efforts? Join us to clean up Berkeley’s paths, work that’s mostly weeding, sweeping, raking, and clipping. We will have gloves and tools available, but feel free to bring your own. Please also bring your own water, as we won't be offering water or refreshments.
