We are thrilled to bring you some very special April events. Come see Julia Morgan Hall transformed with the multimedia artwork of Forest Stearns, our 2025-26 Artist in Residence. As part of his residency project, all are invited to connect with the collections through outdoor art-making on Saturday, April 11 during a " Plein AiR Blitz." We are honored to bring you an online talk on Earth Day with award-winning interdisciplinary artist Paul Walde who creates unique work with and for the environment. Enjoy spring in the Garden on a guided Bird Walk or Butterfly Walk, and get gardening tips on a horticultural tour during our California Native Plant Pop-Up Sale. Read on for more April happenings.

Forest Stearns Art Exhibition:The Intention to DRAWEVERYWHEREJulia Morgan Hall April 8–20
The UC Botanical Garden is pleased to present The Intention to DRAWEVERYWHERE, a multi-dimensional art exhibition featuring innovative Bay Area artist Forest Stearns. This exhibition culminates his year-long Artist in Residency (AiR), utilizing the collection as a research site for plant studies and activating a communal art practice at the Garden through his monthly Plein Air Patrol. On display are both small intimate drawings and large scale multimedia landscapes, including the cylindrical canvases used to encircle Google AI lab quantum computers. Discover how Forest brings people into nature spaces and nature into people spaces in groundbreaking ways. |

EARTH DAY ZOOM TALKPaul Walde: Treescape Revolution

In honor of Earth Day, the Garden is pleased to host an online talk with Canadian interdisciplinary environmentalist Paul Walde. Walde is an award-winning artist, composer and educator known for site-specific, eco-conscious performances, such as his acclaimed Requiem for a Glacier, which blend music with landscape advocacy. For this talk, he will focus on two works: Forestorium, a full-length opera about the challenges faced by Vancouver Island's primary forests; and Treescape Revolution No.1, a true-to-scale photographic image of one revolution around an entire 36-foot circumference of an old-growth cedar tree.
