September is National Preparedness Month, and we've got a ton of opportunities for you to get ready. Attend one of our trainings, use our preparedness tips in this newsletter, and even come to a special edition of Trivia Night at Berkeley's very own Starry Plough.  This month, try to focus on one thing you can do. Small steps add up, so just get started.  Upcoming trainings Household Fire Weather and Evacuation Planning A Household Fire Weather Plan will help you make important decisions including: deciding to leave your home, choosing where you will go, planning multiple evacuation routes, and identifying who you can ask for help. This interactive virtual class, led by the City of Berkeley's Office of Emergency Services, lets you connect with fellow community members, helps you answer key preparedness questions, and guides you in creating a plan to keep your family safe during fire season. Thursday, September 4 at 5pm at North Branch Library Register Monday, September 15 at 12 pm at Claremont Branch Library Register Fire Safety with Berkeley Fire Department  Join the Berkeley Fire Department for a hands on training on using a fire extinguisher! There will be a short presentation, including tips for household fire safety, and best practices for using an extinguisher. Each attendee will have the opportunity to practice using a model extinguisher, with feedback from our first responders. Saturday, September 13 at 10 am at Central Library  Register Saturday, September 20 at 2pm at North Branch Library  Register Preparedness tip of the month Berkeley’s Emergency Map shows real-time, neighborhood-specific protective actions — like evacuation orders and shelter-in-place instructions. Check locations you care about. On the map in any browser search your home, workplace, or kids’ schools to see their current emergency status. Use it anytime. The map is online for all devices, and you can share links with family and friends. Get instant alerts. Download the Genasys Protect app, save your important addresses, and enable notifications to receive updates directly to your phone. Enable location access to receive notifications based on where you are in real time. Come see us at Trivia Night This month, Berkeley Ready will be co-hosting trivia night with Ms. Jenna at the Starry Plough. Trivia starts at 7pm and will be followed by Funk Night at 9pm.
