Dear Virginia Community Food System colleagues,
Hope you are doing well. The Virginia Food System Council and its participating organizations are continuing to encourage participation in the $10 a week challenge to grow Virginia’s economy. The challenge is a recommendation of the Virginia Farm to Table Plan and is one way to bolster local markets for Virginia farmers and increase opportunities for households and communities to know their farmer and where their food comes from. Additionally, eating healthy and increasing farm income can improve our lives, communities and economy.
Virginia Cooperative Extension, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University participate as educational partners, directors and research resources to the Virginia Food System Council. The Council would appreciate your assistance in promoting and building awareness for the $10 a week challenge. The scope and reach of your contact networks throughout the Shenandoah Valley and beyond can be an integral component to the success of this statewide initiative.
Please to consider going to the Council’s website http://virginiafood.org/10-a-week/ and making a pledge to buy just $10 a week of local Virginia-grown farm products by shopping at your local farmers markets, farm stands, community supported agriculture farm, or purchasing local food products at your favorite grocery store.
Again, we need your help to spread the word and keep the momentum going. Please share this exciting initiative by email with your friends, family and contact networks as you see fit.
Let’s have fun and make this challenge a great success! Together, through a small conscious decision to support Virginia farmers with our food purchases, we can bolster local and regional markets for community and the economy!
I have attached some fliers the Council has developed, along with some other files that can be used as badges, websites and bumper stickers, to promote the challenge and encourage participation. A sample file with a hyperlink to the Council’s site is embedded below for your reference.
Thank you again for your assistance with the $10 a Week Challenge and your work throughout Virginia!
With appreciation,
Eric
