Why can't locatik get cellid information directly from google maps? It
will take a very long time to build up a database just from locatik
users. Also can there me a way to check where a friend is on a map by
using the phone? I need to be next to a PC to see where they are.
Telling me someone is 30km away is not very useful without a map.
Apart from that I think it's great app and keep up the great work.

Hello,

Locatik cannot use the google CellID information, because there is no
public API for that purpose.

Currenlty there is no way to get the position of another user on a
map, this is a feature on our roadmap though.

Thanks,
Casper

So Nokia developpers are not allowed to get/use Google Maps api ? This
is a real discrimination ! Look at the hundreds of iPhone apps
leveraging GMaps data... Same of course on T-Mobile G1 (but you'll
tell me this is Android = google's OS so it'd better be). Maybe you
should go out and talk to Yahoo...

At some point I wondered if Locatik was not just another way for your
company to hope building its own DB of cell ID & positioning data...
I agree however with TJ : in its current form, Lokatik is basically
useless for the end-user, and only usefull to your company in order to
build in cell ID and POI DB.

You should pay us :-)

Hi Casper,

Thanks for the response. Google released an API recently
http://code.google.com/p/gears/wiki/GeolocationAPI?redir=1 It might
help you guys a lot.

This is indeed true TJ.

However this requires gears to be installed alongside the browser.
At this time the S60 platform is not supported...only Windows Mobile
and as you probably already know we do not have a Windows Mobile
Client.
