Hi peeps,

I got my lovely LBHaringey people to agree (in principle) to allow us
the use of Bruce Castle for the London edition of LocalGovCamp.

Haven't at all discussed details but just wanted to throw the idea out
there.

I'm going to scope the place out one of these days - it's a beautiful
venue, and the facilities should be right for us.

Also it will be nice to have a special session for councillors and MPs
and social media to which we could invite David Lammy as a patron or
something, because 1. he uses twitter and blogs, and 2. the venue is
on his turf.

What do we all think?

Thanks
Anke

Would be interested - I think the session you have suggested is an excellent one - in the light of the recent Plymouth story floating around..

Excellent idea! This is a bar camp specifically for London LAs?

sounds like fun... Bruce Castle sounds posh and mysterious :)  does it have a bat cave?

There are two sorts of people in the world.

Those who haven't been to Bruce Castle so they understandably think it sounds a bit posh....

....and those that have and don't ;-)

Don't forget the coffee and mini-doughnuts.

I've been to Bruce Castle and I agree, it's a lovely and historic venue.

Also like the idea of getting some councillors and MP's along to share their social media experiences. What about Lynne Featherstone too? She blogs and is/was a Haringey member.

Bruce Castle is indeed lovely, as I recall, but my question about wifi was a serious one - an ability to get online is pretty essential for an event like this!

Doughnuts are optional but very welcome.

Oh of course wifi is essential. Can't do without it.

They probably won't have it but it can be part of the new strategy for
the place which they are discussing. Bruce Castle = co-working space
for the new, informed generation? It's a possibility :)

Will scope the place out today and report back.

Also, I have updated my profile, sorry for being all mysterious
before. Google groups n00b :)

Yeah as expected, on closer inspection of the facilities Bruce Castle
was not really the ideal venue. It's by no means big enough, and also
due to being an active museum, it can't provide the flexibility we'd
need.

Am scouting for others - Bernie Grant Arts Centre has been mentioned
-, but my main contact at Haringey is now away on holiday for the next
three weeks so I doubt I'll be able to tie anything down in the
meantime.

I'd like to make a list for definites that I'd like to see in a venue,
maybe we can start from that -

150 participants,
at least 6 break-out rooms,
Creative, flexible venue (in case we get a sponsor to provide soft
furniture like at the barcamps)
And of course wifi and lots of power sockets.

So if anyone has any other venue ideas - Roundhouse? etc... :)

Hi

I've just posted on our forum to see if any of customers come up with any suggestions: http://www.learningpool.com/

We've used HMS President before for Learning Pool events and it's a great venue. Good wifi, food excellent, staff unflappable and cost effective.

Can anyone clarify whether the London and Bristol meet ups are for London and Bristol areas only or can we "midlanders" join in??

Hi Karen,

if you feel there is value in widening out the Bristol gathering, then why not! I will look at an online mechanism for broadening out the planning meeting but for now, feel free to post thoughts/ideas on the Connecting Bristol blog (or anywhere else you want really)

cheers
