Greetings Local Lefties!

Thanks to those of you that volunteered for the Last-Minute Bake Sale Challenge for tomorrow's Barack 'n Roll!  Looks like it's going to be a fun (and sweet) evening!

Now onward to the weekend!  Saturday, our Local Lefty, Caitlin Parker will be holding a bake sale to raise funds for 'No On 8' which would ban gay marriage in CA's state constitution. 'No On 8' needs your help!  Their campaign is in desperate need of funds to compete with the money conservatives are pouring into the anti-gay-marriage campaign from the rest of the nation.  Sunday, we'll be meeting at SF Obama Headquarters to phonebank to swing states.  Weekend event details below! Also, Local Lefty Jonathan Mayer let us know that the Obama campaign is looking for people to  folks to spend the few days leading
up to the election in Nevada, helping to drive people to the polls in a Get Out The Vote (GOTV) effort.  The organization is called Drive For Change and you can find more info here - http://my.barackobama.com/page/s/nvdfc.

Finally, Local Lefty Joyce Kim wants to remind us to vote 'No' on Prop 4 which would require parental notification for abortions.  The No on 4 Campaign is not doing well in the polls, even though it's already been defeated in CA twice!  Read more about how you can get involved here - http://www.noonprop4.org/.

Most of you have probably heard of Proposition 8.  Same-sex couples have been able to marry legally in California since June.  Proposition 8, a statewide measure, would take away this fundamental right by contending that "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."  Booooooooo! 

The Right Wingers that initiated this proposition are extremely well funded right now, having taking a monetary lead of 9 million dollars over the No On Prop 8 campaign!  With that money they've launched false ads that suggest that churches will lose their tax-free status if they won't marry same-sex couples which is completely untrue but very affective.  With the lies they've been gaining major ground.  No On Prop 8 badly needs funding and awareness.
