The April program of San Francisco for Democracy tackles the important subject of budget crises - both City (San Francisco) and State. These are unprecedented times for both.
First, we'll hear from SF Supervisor John Avalos and Nani Coloretti (the Mayor's Budget Director) about the current state of the SF budget, what problems have sent it out of whack, and possible repairs to the budget. Bring your questions because you have a stake in the outcome.
Our second panel explores the May 19 statewide special election and will feature Rick Wathen and Eric Heins of the California Teaches Association (CTA) and a speaker from SEIU. What are the 9 propositions on the ballot and how should we vote? Did Governor Schwarzenegger craft Props #1A and #1B to divide the coalition of unions that defeated his previous special election challenge? How should we vote? For those of you who are just learning about this May 19th Special Election, this panel will be very informative.
