Alex Tonisson's slateCALIFORNIA STATE WIDE
Governor-Jerry Brown
Jerry Brown has a great legacy that California can be proud of. In
Oakland he did some good and did some not so good, but we know that he
will do things a lot better and be more reasonable than Meg Whitman.
Please tell all you family, friends, etc to vote this election!
Lieutenant Governor-Gavin Newsom
Gavin talks in sounds bites and doesn’t have much substance but let’s
face it the position of Lieutenant Governor doesn’t have much substance
or power and I’d rather have a Democratic in this office than a Right
Wing-nut Republican.
US Senator-Barbara Boxer
This is a very close race and Barbara Boxer needs your support. He
opponent is another unqualified Meg Whitman look alike using her wealth
to try to buy a Senate seat.
Secretary of State-Debra Bowen
Controller-John Chiang
Treasurer-Bill Lockyear
Attorney General-Kamala Harris
It is not well know that the second most powerful election position in
the State is that of Attorney General. This is one of the closest and
most important races in the state and a right wing Republican in this
position will be a disaster for the State.
Insurance Commissioner-Dave Jones
Superintendent of Public Instruction-Larry Aceves
State Board of Equalization-Betty Yee
State Assembly District 13-Tom Ammiano
State Senate District 18
Supreme Court Justices-Moreno
Prop 19-Yes
Makes pot legal, taxable, & regulated. It should raise tax dollars
for CA and stops locking people up for weed although the Federal
Government will still prosecute for marijuana. This is a big first step
toward ending modern day prohibition which has created a drug war and
landed tens of thousands of non-violent drug users in jail.
Prop 20-No
Expands the power of the statewide redistricting commission that decides
how state and federal legislative districts get drawn up. However, this
commission over-represents Republicans and no one under 23 can serve on
it.
Prop 21-No Position
Adds $18 to the cost of registering a vehicle in CA to fund our state
parks, and everyone who pays the fee gets a pass to visit all of them. I
think it is a noble cause but at the same time it is a very regressive
tax because everyone pays the same fee. I think Billionaires should have
to pay more for government services such as parks and library’s than
Californians making $30K a year.
Prop 22-No
Although I agree with the concept that the State should not steal money
from local agency’s cities etc the execution of this Prop is not the
right way to go. It’s really complicated and in the end will just make
the State budget situation worse, which will then come down on other
local agency’s such as County’s. It’s a lose/lose situation and doesn’t
address the fact that Prop 13 needs to be reformed.
Prop 23-No
Prop 23 is funded by oil companies whose profits might be threatened if
they had to obey California's landmark global warming law, it basically
repeals AB32, thereby destroying the environment and about half a
million green CA jobs.
Prop 24-Yes
Repeals tax breaks for large corporations to the tune of over $1Billion.
There is no reason why they should be getting these breaks when the
Governor cut funding for Childcare funding for over 54,000 kids this
year. The state needs the money and the corporations are still making
money.
Prop 25-YES YES YES!
Changes the rules in the CA legislature so a simple majority vote can
pass a budget (right now a 2/3's majority is required, so a right-wing
minority clogs everything & we're deadlocked & broke). It’s a
baby step forward but a step in the right direction. Note that raising
taxes will still require a 2/3 vote.
Prop 26-NO!
Brought to you by big oil, alcohol, & tobacco companies, Prop 26
would require a 2/3's vote in the legislature to pass any new fees.
These fees are used to fund things like environment clean up and health
care need as a result of corporate pollution. This would cripple
government's ability to pay for environmental and health laws.
Prop 27-Yes
Eliminates that bad redistricting commission (see Prop 20).
SAN FRANCISO BALLOT
Prop AA-Yes
$10 a year vehicle fee for roads, transit, and pedestrians.
Prop A-Yes
$46 Million bond to seismically retrofit affordable housing units.
Prop B-NO! NO! NO! NO!
Says it’s pension reform but in fact over two-thirds of the money
generated will be from increasing the cost of healthcare for city
workers such as janitors, teachers, nurses, and gardeners. The worst
part is that it targets families for the highest healthcare cost
increases. A parent with one child will have to pay $3000 to 5600 more
per year. There are 17,000 city workers that make less than $40K per
year and realistically this will make healthcare unaffordable for them.
When they lose healthcare coverage they end up in the emergency room and
it costs the tax payers even more. Additionally it will make San
Francisco lose another $23 million of Federal healthcare funding each
year. Tell all your friends, family, etc about this and makes sure they
know the truth and VOTE NO!
Prop C-No
Tries to force the Mayor to answer the board of Supervisors questions,
it’s already been passed and never happens. It never will. It’s a waste
of time that this is on the ballot.
Prop D-Yes
Prop D allows adult noncitizen parents with kids in our public schools
to vote in School Board elections. That's 33% of our parents!
Prop E-Yes
This would allow people to register on election day and vote on local
measures and candidates. We should make voting as easy as possible.
Prop F-No
Suspicious consolidation of random Health Services Board elections.
Prop G-No
This will not fix MUNI but instead just picks on Muni drivers who have
one of the worst jobs in the world. Yes, the weird salary guarantee they
have needs to change, but this Prop scapegoats them and puts an unfair
burden on them when they negotiate their future workplace conditions.
MUNI has some systematic problems including the fact that the state
continues to cut transit funding. You can cut workers salary all you
want but it’s never going to equal the amount of money that is needed to
have a well planned and well run transit system.
Prop H-No
Bar some SF elected officials from political party committees.
Prop I-Yes
This is kind of a weird trial run of Saturday voting in SF. It's funded
by private donations, and if it makes it easier to vote.
Prop J-Yes
Raises the hotel tax by 2% to raise $35 million per year for the city.
Also closes a couple of tax loopholes. This tax has not been raised in
over 14 years and will work out to about $3 a night for tourists to pay
to fund the city services they use(MUNI, Police, Parks, etc).
Prop K-No!
This one is a "poison pill" that kills Prop J if it gets more votes.
Prop L-No
Makes it illegal to sit or lie down on sidewalks. Unenforceable and
unrealistic. Think about it, having a garage/sidewalk sale would become
illegal.
Prop M-Yes
Getting the police in their community. The cops don’t like it because
they want control over what they do (which makes sense I would get mad
if voters told me how to do my job when they have no real idea about
what my day to day is like). However, community policing has been shown
to improve the situation not make it worse.
Prop N-Yes
Raises the tax on property sales of over $5 Million, which will add up
to about $36 Million per year for the city and exclude personal
residences. We need all the budget help we can get, city workers gave
back over $250 million in wage concessions this year, can’t the very
wealthy chip some money in too?
Board of Supervisors District 2 Pacific Heights/Marina/Presidio
-Janet Reilly
She kind of sucks but her competition is way worse. What do you expect
from the most conservative part of the City?
Board of Supervisors District 4 Sunset
-Carmen Chu
Uncontested race.
Board of Supervisors District 6 Soma/Mission/Tenderloin/
Treasure
Island
-Debra Walker
A strong and experienced progressive leader. Debra has been on the
Building Inspection Commission for 9 years. She's been a strong
progressive on the Democratic County Central Committee.
Board of Supervisors District 8 Castro/Noe Valley/Glen Park
-Rafael Mandelman
Rafael is experienced (served on the Board of Appeals), smart (housing
lawyer), dedicated (former president of the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic
Club), and a reasonable guy.
Board of Supervisors District 10 Bayview/Hunters Point/Potrero Hil-
Malia Cohen or Chris Jackson or Dewitt Lacy(remember that SF has ranked
choice voting so you can pick your top three candidates)
BART Board-Bert Hill
Assessor Phil Ting-YES!
A great city leader and does his job well. He also is leading the
statewide efforts to reform CA's Prop 13.
Board of Education-Hydra Mendoza
Board of Education-Bill Barnes
Board of Education-Kim-Shree Maufas
Community College Board-John Rizzo
Public Defender-DO NOT VOTE FOR Jeff Adachi
Please write in anyone except for Jeff Adachi. He’s the A-Hole who put
Prop B on the Ballot to set up a run for mayor. Mickey Mouse would be
better, seriously.
