Folks,
It would be great to get someone to go to this and report back to the group. Any chance you are able to go this Tuesday? Might you be willing and able to record this so we could post it somewhere if Ken meter agrees?

Hello! I am contacting community leaders in Central Illinois that I feel have a special interest in the role local food and farming can play in our local economy and our community's quality of life. You are receiving this email because you are one of those people.
I hope you can join me the morning of Tuesday, June 28, to attend a special community leadership presentation by nationally recognized economist Ken Meter, who will share research results showing how we can boost the economy of 32 Central Illinois counties by increasing production of food for consumption within the local community.
Ken Meter will speak on Tuesday, June 28, at 8:00 a.m. in the Astroth Community Education Center (room 2210) on the campus of Heartland Community College (1500 West Raab Road, Normal). The presentation will be hosted by Edible Economy Project, a joint project of the Economic Development Council of the Bloomington Normal Area, Heartland Community College, The Land Connection, Downtown Bloomington Farmers’ Market, and Normal Trailside Market.
Mr. Meter's presentation is entitled Building the Central Illinois Food & Farm Economy: The Economics of Local Food Production. The study will include key findings from Mr. Meter's economic impact analysis of farming and local food production and consumption in a 32-county area of Central Illinois, including Bloomington-Normal, Springfield, Champaign-Urbana, and Peoria.
Mr. Meter is one of the leading food systems analysts in the United States. He has conducted economic analyses of food and farm economies in over 45 regions in 20 states across the United States. His analysis focusing on Central Illinois reveals that our current food and farm economy effectively exports large amounts of wealth away from the region, while our residents spend substantial amounts of money on food imported from elsewhere. He will show how our region has the opportunity to significantly boost economic development, create and retain wealth, and provide Illinois residents greater access to fresh, affordable, locally produced foods.
Please join us and other community leaders for this special presentation. If there are others you think may be interested in this presentation, please feel free to forward this invitation. A flyer describing this presentation can be downloaded by clicking here.
Space is limited, so please RSVP by June 22 to Doris at doris...@heartland.edu or (309) 268-8163. We look forward to seeing you the morning of June 28. Local food refreshments will be served.
Sincerely,
Elaine Sebald for the Edible Economy Steering Group
And, don’t worry about the RSVP.. I replied indicating that I would try to get someone (or two) there to represent the group-
