Thanks to El Presidente and Rachel for hosting us last night. The turnout was good, the off-flavor sampling was bad, and the beers were great. A few beers that stood out to me were Tom's Session IPA, Cool Justin's Light Lager...aka "Ol' 24," and Mitchel's Gueze that really reminded me of a Kreik from Cascade Brewing. The Caramel Vanilla Porter from B5 was also delicious.

On to your recap...
  • New Members - Welcome, Cory. Thanks for coming to hang out, and we're looking forward to trying some of your beer.
  • Treasurer's Report - Still in the black. Expenditures for the year should be done. We'll start 2026 with a healthy balance sheet.
  • Comps and Festivals - no real update on Shootout. Otherwise, it's a dead period for comps and festivals.
  • Club Brewday - Black Butte Porter clone on the Monolithic pilot system. Sunday, 11/2 @ 9 AM. Sign-up here
  • Fall Social - Nebraska Brewing is closing on 10/19. We're going to help them empty their kegs on Thursday, 10/16 @ 6PM. Come join us for one last pint at one of the OG breweries in Nebraska.
  • November Meeting - Tom is going to host
  • December Meeting/Club Christmas party was scheduled for 12/5. Get that on your calendars and start hunting for your white elephant exchange offering.
  • Brewdown - Autumn Beers - Cool Justin won with his Marzen over Tom and my pumpkin beers, with only about 1/3 of the club voting. Which is understandable, as nobody wants to admit in public that they like Pumpkin Beers...kind of like nobody will admit in public that they like Carrot Top.
  • Off-flavor tasting - Tom served up two samples of Busch Light dosed with a metallic flavoring and a sulphur flavoring.
  • Club email reminder - The @googlegroups.com address goes to the entire club. The @google.com address goes to a mailbox that only a couple of people monitor.
That should cover this month. I hope to see a bunch of you on Thursday!!

And as always, keep those fermenters full.

Just throwing out a reminder for the social at Nebraska Brewing tomorrow evening. I just drove by there about 30 minutes ago and they were packed.

See you tomorrow at 6:00. Let’s kill some kegs.

Update on Shootout for anybody unaware, and the brewery at the German-American Society

Steve T. then updated us on the status of Plattfluss Brauhaus. We have our federal license and are in the process of getting the state license. Soon, we will begin converting the Rathskeller kitchen into a brewing space.

The BUV is hosting the 2026 Nebraska Shootout Homebrew Competition. Scot updated everyone on the competition's status. The competition is officially registered with the BJCP for July 25th, 2026. The shootout committee will be meeting soon to discuss further details on the competition
