Dear Team,
Please note the below update regarding residents who are currently outside the UAE with expired residency visas.
1. What is the official news regarding expired visa holders outside the UAE?
As announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, residents who are currently outside the UAE and whose residency permits have expired are allowed to return to the country under a special exception due to the current regional circumstances and airspace closures that prevented their return.
2. What visa type is this applicable to?
The announcement specifically refers to UAE residency permit holders. As of now this exception is not applicable to other visa categories, such as visit visas or eVisas.
3. Applicable to visas expired from which dates?
This applies to residents whose residency visas expired on or after 28 February 2026 while they were outside the UAE and who were unable to return due to flight suspensions or airspace closures. Visas that expired before 28 February 2026 are not eligible under this exception.
4. What is the duration of the grace period?
The exception is valid for one month, from 28 February 2026 until 31 March 2026. During this period, eligible residents can enter the UAE without applying for a new entry visa.
Upon arrival, residents will be required to regularize their legal status.
We will share a further update once any additional official information or clarification is received.
