Plattsburgh Green Committee Elects Officers and Seeks Input on Action
Plan for 2009.

Next Meeting
------------------
Date: Jan 6th
Time: 6:30 PM
Location: Plattsburgh City Hall: 2nd Floor Community Meeting Room

The Jan 6th meeting of the Plattsburgh Green Committee is an important
meeting for the newly formed community action organization. The sole
focus of the Jan 6th meeting is the creation of an effective Action
Plan for 2009. We encourage individuals and representatives of local
businesses, organizations and churches wishing to have a voice in the
process to participate in our Jan 6th meeting.

In a short time, we've grown from a handful of city residents and
business owners to over 20 active participants at the December
meeting. The Green Committee seeks to be the central resource and
organizing committee with a focus on environmental action and
initiatives to encourage sustainability in Plattsburgh. Many local
businesses, organizations, churches and schools have sub-groups and
task forces focused on environmental initiatives. Often, these small
groups are working toward lofty goals that can be helped if joined
with other groups with the same or similar objectives. The
Plattsburgh Green Committee hopes to provide an opportunity for
community members, businesses, organizations and churches working on
environmental causes to join forces.

Toward that end, committee officers were elected in December who will
focus the group's actions, communicate to the wider community and lead
meetings. Our Chair, Meghan Samolis, is a prior member of other green
committees and has experience working to focus actions where they will
be most effective. Our Vice-Chair, Marcia Walosz, is an environmental
engineer who has worked to clean up the environment her entire
professional career. Our Secretary, Doug Butdorf, is a local resident
with a personal focus on "greening-up our transportation" and
development of a Plattsburgh community garden project.

Other members include students, educators, realtors, technology
managers, engineers, retirees, retail employees, city employees - a
wide variety of people from all walks of life - all with a common
desire to improve the local environment and encourage sustainability
in Plattsburgh.

The Plattsburgh Green Committee needs your help and participation to
create and carry-out an effective and practical plan of action for
2009. Please attend on January 6th at 6:30 PM in City of Plattsburgh
City Hall's Community Meeting Room and lend your voice and hands to
the process.
