Hello Everyone,

As we are 6 weeks into the Local Solutions Forum and are now 89 (and counting) members, it seems a good time to check-in and get general feedback on the structure of the forum. In case you are new to the forum or it is unclear, the current structure is set up so that every Monday there is a new post from a forum member.  Here is the posting pattern we have followed so far:

Week 1: Local Organization

Week 2: Global Organization

Week 3: Discussion Topic

Week 4: Funder

What do you think about this structure?  Too many posts?  Too few?  Should we have something other than email posts?  Further suggestions on how we can improve?

Also, we thought we would get the pulse of the community on a few issues.  Here's a link to a quick Survey Monkey poll:   http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RYYCMHV

If you could take a couple of minutes to complete it, I'll  compile and present the results on Wednesday for further discussion.

In the meantime, all comments and conversation welcome!

Thank you,

Justine

Hi All,

As promised, here's a summary of the poll responses so far:

We didn’t get too many responses, but on both questions (whether to have principles as Matthew suggested and whether to have rules of conduct) were 60% yes, 40% no.   Among the  no responses for both, there was a concern for limiting conversation.

This doesn’t seem enough of a mandate to warrant a major push for either, so we will keep the ‘voting’ open until the end of the week, but also feel free to make the case for either over email if you prefer.

Amongst the list of other conversation topics for this week were:

-Mobilizing and sustaining volunteers in environmental entrepreneurship endeavours

-Creating an LSF logo for members' website and/or blog that would link to the group's homepage.

-Posting of job opportunities on the forum.

-Using a site like www.debategraph.com,  www.discoverycast.com , www.reframeit.com. to create a visual illustration of our work.

-Setting up a google hang out group where we could have more iterative, real time conversations in order to get into some more complex, substantive conversations.

Any thoughts on the above comments and ideas?  General feedback also welcome, of course.

Looking forward to hearing more!

Thanks again,

Justine

Hello again,

Here's another summary of this week's survey and discussion:

71% of respondents are interested in creating a set of shared principles and LSF discussion guidelines.  Thanks to everyone who participated and your great feedback and ideas!

There are a few action items mentioned that we would like to follow-through on, including:

1.  An LSF Dropbox folder: This is optional, but you should receive an invite by the end of this weekend.  If for some reason you don't, please let me know. You'll find the following folders and docs:

· 'Shared Principles' doc.  We can also continue this conversation via email and during upcoming discussion topic weeks.

· 'Shared Resources' doc to be used as kind of an online library for any articles, books, websites, etc. that you would like to share with the group.

2.  Creating a logo to (optionally) share on websites and/or blogs:

· We would like to collect 5-6 designs to vote on between now and October.  Do you have an idea for a logo or know anyone who would be interested in donating their time to create one?

Keep the comments coming....

Thanks again for your participation!  Stay tuned for a post from Jennifer Lentfer of How-Matters.Org on Monday!

Justine, thanks for collecting and sending this information.

It's been a lot of fun to see the posts each week and greatly appreciate everyones participation. It always gets me thinking about ways to improve my work and I'm excited for the shared principles list.

Thanks all around.
Sasha
