Hello from Local Poets Guild,

There is a ton to let you know of for the forthcoming couple of months and I'll be as succinct as possible and offer links to blog posts for more information.

EAST OF EDITH

We have also fully launched featured readers at our Monday night open mic, East of Edith. Our organizing committee (to plan featured readers and guest hosts) consists of Eric Bodwell, Jennifer Krohn, Cathy Arellano and Lisa Gill. Next up: we feature Aaron Trumm with his band on September 5th at 7:00pm at the Projects 3614 High Street NE. THE ROOST

The Roost collaboration with Local Poets Guild continues and this Sunday features Now Playing (a trio) alongside Katrina Guarascio, Jessica Helen Lopez, and Zachary Kluckman. A fun series which has just reached the halfway point. See http://wp.me/pTrSB-yq

SUPERHEROES POETRY COMPETITION

We are happy to have a solid partnership working in an advisory capacity for 516 ARTS, and this next exhibition cycle we will be sponsoring a writing competition related to superheroes. Deadline Oct.1. For more info, read up here http://wp.me/pTrSB-yw

WORLD MUSIC AND LANGUAGES
For Globalquerque, we are offering "Hand-to-Tongue: A Celebration of Threatened Languages" featuring Teresa Blankmeyer Burke, Reed Adair Bobroff, and Tanaya Winder at 1 pm on Saturday September 17th during the free global fiesta. Our event takes place in the Wells Fargo Theater at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This event is fully interpreted into American Sign Language. BIONEERS IN 'BURQUE

With the help of Yasmeen Najmi and Lisa Gill, LPG will be participating in Burque Bioneers and offering a small taste of a form called the Poet's Diner, which Lisa Gill developed in 1995. Other poetry components will also be happening at the conference Oct 21 and 22. Tickets are on sale now. See http://bbabq.wordpress.com/

DOUBLE TONGUE AT CHURCH

In October, Local Poets Guild has a collaboration called Double Tongue with Church of Beethoven which features five poets writing directly in response to the music and includes Amy Beeder, Jennifer Frank, Tanaya Winder, Gary Brower, and Hakim Bellamy. This project is funded by a grant from New Mexico Humanities Council and for more information watch the website at www.churchofbeethoven.com (We will also be publishing a broadside for that, and at the end of the month, there will be a panel discussion.)

TRANSITIONS

We are undergoing some transitions and will be changing email listserves and creating a new website in the next couple of months. Consequently, expect some changes, including how you receive your newsletter, as well as small (and large) shifts to mission and website. We are also bringing someone on board to handle bookings for our LAND IS retreat, and will be changing the application process to quarterly within the next month.
