Then I thought. Hmmmm, I bet it is the same across the board (no pun
intended). This is probably a problem with many small historical
societies.
Two solutions came to mind:
1. strenght in numbers - sort of a one shop stop for your discussion
needs. Discussions can be broken down to local entry levels (Ex: a
discussion post on Richfield history) but there can be cross the
board browsing of all posts by all members.
2. Colonization. This is a term used to refer to using a web service
to serve your own needs rather than building your own. A good example
is now many musicians are putting up sites on myspace.com inaddition
or instead of their own sites because of the traffic myspace
generates. Being on a board like google's puts us in the path of those
looking for local history resources.
