I just spent an hour or two watching my own content, not because I'm overly narcissistic (lol), although that certainly has been suggested from time to time, but primarily to see that my song has been consistent, and what song I've been singing anyway.
It is interesting, because in indigenous cultures, outside of this property/owner culture, that stories were passed forward in time by the word of mouth in an oral tradition. And, as the tellers learned more, the stories would be expanded, and the extended family would sit together around the fire, and share the stories, and all the elaborations.
In that way, it reminds me of how C3PO shared the story of the rebellion with the Ewoks, which inspired their courage, and led to not only the collapse of the empire, but great celebration.
So, from 2006, with my first community education post on the state of society and culture, all the way to today, I see this consistency, while also seeing the slow change and improvement over time of how I'm working to tell this story (factual though it is) and helping to invite people in to understand the "predicament" that we find ourselves in.
And so, over the past 8-weeks, I've made nearly 50 videos for you, both friends and subscribers, to help you understand how things are, and by inviting in a dozen or more different guests, that it is not just me, but that thinking, intelligent people from very different places, are all recognizing that the story we've been living is not the story that we've imagined we have been living.
The this week, the last eight days, the culmination really, with nearly 20 of the videos out of the nearly 50, bringing the symphony to the full orchestration, the story to the climatic point, and really, for those listening, the call to action and adventure; as in the Hero's Journey.
What next? Well, to watch all 20 of those videos, even at 2x speed, would take over 20 hours, so I may take a breather and focus on some other areas for a bit. Home. Family. The garden. Community. I have fallen a bit behind in my goal to help tap into people's desire to do good and be helpful to one another in the community. I mean, gee, I haven't even offered up the 100 Yard Gardening Challenge, suggested a local currency, or community work bees, or anything like that. I know others, somewhere, are doing this work, but I'm the one here.
And, I haven't really been reaching out to everyone to help them have the knowledge, the thinking processes, the mental attitudes, to be able to do this work. I'm like B without actually helping others to be B, as Daniel Quinn might put it. So, that I certainly need to do, this work is too important to lose momentum, or to be kept in all one place. In this way, this is a call to you to join in, not just as an individual and family member, but as a community organizer yourself, where you are, knowing what you know. And, I'm happy to support you in that, taking a step back from the front line of community education, to be able to support those who are now ready to be in the fore.
What next for me?
Well, we do have a call with Nicole Foss, live to New Zealand on Monday, 5/25/2020 at 6:00 p.m. EDT. Nicole and I have had I think four calls now, and this will be our fifth, and these have been bringing many people together, as this is work that Nicole and I were both doing, in our own ways, over a decade ago. It's a good connection, and I invite you to join us for that.
What I think I bring best to those conversation is an undying belief that we humans are powerfully altruistic, and that we will work together, and that this is really the story of our lifetimes, our own hero's journeys, our own calls to adventure.
And, this means that, yes, we have a road of trials ahead on our way to the abyss, internal or external or both, but through that, we our true selves with be revealed as our masks of selfishness are burned away, and we will, as Thomas Thomas H. Greco puts it, become a butterfly society, metamorphosing into something beautiful and unexpected.
SO, yes, I have a few things I will attend to, and I'll share on those as well, and I'll take some time and consider what else is next for me. Is it the time that I am called to the front of the group, to use my rallying voice? If I'm called to, then I will, and if things look dicey, I may have to just jump in to make sure things don't go off the rails locally... but I don't know if this is yet (or ever) the time a charismatic leader in the fore.
And, I want to spend a bit of time processing this week, doing the free (and, thus far, very good looking) education.resilience.org course. It is about a 3-hour course, taught by an infinitely patient Richard Heinberg, and with lots of great references, some of which I've spent time with, and some of which I look forward to spending time.
Richard and his network have been at this in a more deliberate way for much longer than I, especially during my almost disappearance from this community education scene for a number of years. Perhaps this was burnout, which is very typical amongst social change leaders, especially when that change does not appear to be coming.
And, it is not just Richard, but there are many others that are doing this work, and so many that share so many of our same beliefs, the Venn Diagrams, in many cases, are showing identical circles, although we do not yet recognize it. We are the givers, the ones who give, who share, who reach out, who help, who surrender to love, to compassion, to altruism; and we are the one's that are called to remind to help others back to this side of the world-view, life-stance "divide". We are inherently good, all of us, and we are not a fallen people, we are not evil, we are not flawed, we have simply become enamored with a fantastic story and existence that is a work of fiction.
The reason for that: well, I don't know that we're to that point in the remembering yet to recognize it, although if a person was to watch all 50-or so videos, I think they would find it; and I think we'll all come to realize it in our own time. Learning, after all, is an internal journey of discovery about ourselves, and especially of the things we cling dearly to for no logical reason.
SO LONG!!! I write such long things sometimes, and I don't imagine then to be so at the beginning!
I invite you to jump into these videos wherever you feel called, and feel from to play at 2x or 1.5x speed. I have many favorites, so I would not know which one to suggest.
And, as I conclude for the evening, please allow me the pleasure of sharing with you what I think is my message:
Truth is Power... but ONLY if you share it.
Love is Unlimited... but ONLY if you free it.
We, you, me, the animals, the living world, our pasts and our futures, we are all One.
