Local Future presents the Conference on Michigan’s Future: Energy, Economy, and Environment to be held at Crystal Mountain Resort. The three day conference will bring together leaders from business, industry, government, and non-profit organizations to explore the complex and interdependent relationships between energy, our economy and the environment from a Michigan perspective. The conference is being directed by Aaron Wissner, President of Local Future, a Michigan non-profit educational organization.

This year’s conference speakers include: Charles A. S. Hall, professor of systems ecology at the State University of New York; Marija Ilic, professor of computer science and electrical engineering at Carnegie-Mellon University; Skip Pruss, formerly the deputy director of the MDEQ and chief energy officer for Michigan; Paul Isley, associate dean for the college of business at Grand Valley State University; and Peter Sinclair, a climate science communicator.

“It is an outstanding lineup of speakers for this year’s event,” says Jim MacInnes, Crystal Mountain’s CEO and himself a presenter at this year’s conference. “One particularly important topic that will be discussed is how to reliably incorporate intermittent renewable generation into our power grid at low cost.”

"Energy, economy and environment are always intimately connected," said Wissner "Understanding the complexities and realities of these connections is key to building the sustainable infrastructure of the future."

Conference sponsors include Consumers Energy (CMS), ITC Holdings, the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association, and the Association for the Study of Peak Oil, USA.

The Conference on Michigan’s Future will be held November 1-3, 2013 at Crystal Mountain Resort. Conference details, including a list of speakers and registration information, can be found at: http://www.futuremichigan.org/
