The Greening of Detroit, in partnership with Catherine Ferguson
Academy (CFA), is seeking a candidate for a full time AmeriCorps
position to assist our Urban Agriculture staff and volunteer cluster
center leader at CFA in coordinating gardening activities and
educational programming for family, community, and school vegetable
gardens participating in cluster 4 in The Garden Resource Program.
The AmeriCorps member will also be coordinating gardening activities
and educational programming at the Catherine Ferguson Academy Farm,
Detroit's largest working farm.

AmeriCorps Member Responsibilities:
Assist CFA teachers and staff by coordinating experiential learning
opportunities during school
hours for students at CFA's working farm. (28%)
Coordinate CFA's student farm club, student run farmers' market,
and summer youth
employment program. (15%)
Work with stakeholders to create and implement a comprehensive farm
plan. (2%)
Work with staff from The Greening of Detroit and CFA to coordinate
both long term and short
term volunteer activities at CFA's farm, orchard, and greenhouse.
(20%)
Assist the Garden Resource Program's cluster 4 leader in
coordinating cluster 4 community
meetings, events, and resource distributions. (10%)
Attend and assist with city-wide meetings and activities for the
Garden Resource Program. (10%)
Develop skills related to organic food production, product marketing
and sales, community
organizing and outreach, and nutrition education by attending relevant
workshops and classes.
(10%)
Attend mandatory pre-service and in-service Michigan AmeriCorps
Partnership (MAP)training
sessions. (5%)
Eligible candidates must meet the following requirements:
1. U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or lawful permanent resident alien of
the U.S.
2. High school or college graduate
3. Be able to provide copy of driver's license, social security card
and birth certificate or passport
4. Must have reliable transportation and phone, mileage is reimbursed
at federal rate
5. Must be available on a full-time basis for one year to complete
1700 hours of service
AmeriCorps Member Benefits
1700 Service Hour AmeriCorps Members can receive:
$11,400 annual stipend
$4,725 educational award (upon successful completion of contracted
hours)
