Thanks to those who came by today to check out the WaPo space for use in the post-con sprints. A couple of notes...

* There's an obscene amount of space. There are two main halls, both of which could seat in the several hundreds. There are a half-dozen separate meeting rooms we could possibly also reserve, however there's more than enough space to have a main nest of tables and several breakout sessions in a single hall without having to grab more rooms.
* Access to the space short-circuits the security desk, and dumps into our own private reception where we'd basically have our own sign-in. This would make in-and-out easy.
* We will have to coordinate with WaPo IT to make sure we have unrestricted outbound access, sufficient bandwidth, and QoS appropriate to our constituency
* The space is fully accessible, including access ramps and restrooms
* Tables would have to be procured from an outside source
* Whiteboards would need to be procured from an outside source, but Jackie believes we can probably borrow some from various WaPo offices
* There is a caterer's kitchen and service counter with easy access to a loading dock, however there is not refrigeration we can use - an outside caterer would need to be retained.
* There is a locked room near the entrance we can use for securing whatever
* There is full A/V built into both halls and a stage/podium, if we want it
* There are restrooms immediate in the halls, each with enough capacity that there won't be a line or a sanitation problem

Let me know if I missed anything or if there are other questions. Thanks!

Awesome work!  This sounds great.

A few additional things that should probably be checked:
  • Do they have any insurance requirements for us or are there any restrictions that we should know about from their insurance.
  • Power: is there enough power infrastructure in the room that people should be able to plugin with what's there or will we need to bring power strips and make sure that we don't overload circuits.
  • Alcohol rules - Usually beer shows up some point during the sprint.  Are there any local rules or policies from WaPo that we need to follow?
Thanks to everybody on the local team for doing this work, it sounds like we're on track to have the best Django sprints to date in 2012!

Hi Sean -

Very good questions. We've got an email into the WaPo facilities folks to get answers. I'll keep you posted. Thanks!
