Aaron asked me to reach out to Ben Zolno about Prop 16.  Here is his response about how we could invest $1000 in reaching So Cal voters.  Please let me know whether someone wants to propose that we move forward. Without support this will not move forward.

Hi Local Clean Energy Alliance friends,

I just talked to Dave and share my idea that your organization is doing a great job on Northern CA, getting the progressives out to vote in an election they may not otherwise attend. 

My social media "conversation campaign" - combating PG&E's one-way media blast with a multi-way social media discussion that costs one millionth PG&E's PR budget - has focused on Southern California, reaching mostly conservatives who are able to think for themselves.

I understand the organization's resources and time are limited, so, instead of LCEA reinventing the wheel, I propose that LCEA appropriate a portion of their social media budget to strengthen and expand our current efforts in Southern California.

Goal
To reach and engage likely Southern California, many conservative, and get them to vote

Methods
Facebook

• engaging "yes on 16" "free market" "big government" people with back and forth emails about how Prop 16 uses the government to kill the free market in energy.  Only contact people whose pages show they're not zealots
• posting the videos on every fan page in California
• joining groups of political parties and posting videos and links
• asking some of the smarter folks we're already in contact with to join phone banking

Twitter

• tweet engagement
• creating conservative users
• building reputation as conservatives
• building targeted followers
• by hand
  
• using quick-add-following program we've refined
• tweeting and engaging other conservatives on the issue
• creating debate between twitter users we've created, making sure other users can see and will join in
  
• asking some of the smarter folks to join phone banking

Press

• Create a story appealing to them - they love David v. Goliath, and can develop others
• Use my list of Southern CA political and energy reporters to pitch via phone call
• Connect press with person in Southern CA who would do best on camera. 

This takes a huge amount of person hours, as this is one-on-one engagement.  However, one on one with the right "one" can have instant exponential effects, as conversations in social media can be. 

We ask you allocate $1,000 to the effort to have 2 people working on this 2.5 hours a day, and assign an intern or volunteer to to join this effort for several hours a day as well.
