RATEPAYERS' RALLY to OPPOSE PG&E'S MONOPOLY and PROP 16 BEGINNING TODAY at 5:30PM at S.F. CITY HALL and at 7:00PM to ATTEND CPUC HEARING to PROTEST PG&E's PROPOSSED RATE HIKES.
Oakland, California - A broad coalition of organizations and individuals are holding two rallies to oppose PG&E's monopoly-protection and profiteering tactics before attending the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) public comment hearing. Colin Miller, states that, "if Prop 16 were to pass, low income communities and people of color would be greatly impacted. Prop 16 is a thinly disguised attempt by PG&E to tie the hands of local governments from providing green alternative power and limit competition." Dave Room, of the Clean Energy Alliance, states, "We need good jobs, energy efficiency, green energy choices, like solar and wind power, not PG&E's endlessly spiraling rate hikes." Organizers of the events include the Local Clean Energy Alliance.
5:30PM - RALLY AT S.F. CITY HALL TO OPPOSE PG&E'S MONOPOLY AND PROP 16 (Civic Center, Polk street side)
6:00PM - RALLY OUTSIDE CPUC BUILDING TO OPPOSE PG&E'S PROPOSED RATE INCREASES
6:30PM - UNITY RALLY ON STEPS OF CPUC BUILDING (State Bldg, 505 Van Ness, at McAllister, SF)
7:00PM -- PUBLIC COMMENTS IN CPUC RATE CASE HEARING (in CPUC auditorium)
Schedule and Events' Details
Beginning at 5:30PM until 6:30PM at SF City Hall steps, Polk St. (civic center plaza) side, rally to protest PG&E's monopoly-protection and profiteering tactics and oppose Prop 16. Speakers include Megan Matson, Main Street Moms, Dave Room, Bay Localize, Mark Toney, TURN, among others. Musical performance by The Brass Liberation Orchestra begins at 5:00PM.
At 6:00PM until 6:30PM at CPUC Building, State Bldg, 505 Van Ness, at McAllister, SF, rally to oppose PG&E's proposed rate increases. Musical performances by Augusta Lee Collins of the West Coast Blues Hall of Fame with Colin Miller. Speakers include Colin Miller of Greenlining Institute Dave Room, Megan Matson, and Mark Toney, among others.
At 6:30PM - UNITY RALLY held outside CPUC building. Both rallies will converge on CPUC steps before heading in to testify at the CPUC public hearings.
At 6:45PM, rally attendees will go to the CPUC auditorium to participate in the general rate case public participation hearings and public comment session.
At 7:00PM, CPUC auditorium (State Bldg, 505 Van Ness, at McAllister, SF.), public participation hearings begin regarding PG&E's proposed rate increases.
