In this email:
  1. San Francisco's online petition for CPUC to stop PG&E's misleading information
  2. CRUCIAL CleanPowerSF Public Meeting This Wed, May 19
  3. SAVE THE DATE - early evening May 24th SF Protest/rally against PG&E Rate Hikes
1. San Francisco's online petition for CPUC to stop PG&E's misleading information

SF LAFCo recently started a online petition to protest the misleading information PG&E is circulating regarding local renewable energy efforts and the tactics the corporation is using to stifle competition in the California energy market. The petition asks the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to adopt more effective regulations against such abuses of power by large utilities such as PG&E.

The petition is online here: www.change.org/actions/view/stop_pge_from_using_our_ratepayer_money_to_impede_local_governments_right_to_provide_clean_energy

We'd appreciate it if you could take a minute to sign it (your information can remain private if you wish) and also forward the link on to your partners, Local Clean Energy Alliance members, and any other allies. As this is going to the CPUC, we hope to gain support beyond the Bay Area as well.

2. CRUCIAL CleanPowerSF Public Meeting This Wed, May 19

CRUCIAL CleanPowerSF, Public Meeting This Wed, May 19, 4:30pm, SFPUC, 1155 Market St, 6th Floor

First some good news. The LAFCo staff has -finally- contacted Paul Fenn and Local Power in order to hire Local Power to work on the final CleanPowerSF contract that will be made with Power Choice LLC to initiate and build the project.

This is -huge- because it means we will finally have a qualified ally who we can trust -in- the contract negotiations which, up to now, have been held in secret between Power Choice and the SFPUC staff, City Attorney staff, and the LAFCo staff attorney. These closed, failed negotiations are what led to SFPUC General Manager Harrington's absurd statements opposing the project's viability.

Now we will need to push -hard- for Local Power to take a -strong- lead role in the contract negotiations to guarantee a contract that will ensure large scale renewables and efficiency, and that will be signed before the June 8th vote on Prop 16!

(Note! This Friday May 21st, at 2pm in SF City Hall Room 250, the action item for hiring Local Power will be heard in a special LAFCo hearing and it will be very important for as many of us as possible to be there to argue for Local Power being given the lead role in the contract negotiations, so that those negotiations will have any true hope of succeeding.)

But this Wednesday is also crucial!

IMPORTANT!!

The SFPUC staff has just called a community stakeholder 'Clean Energy Stewards' meeting for this Wednesday, and it is absolutely -VITAL- that we fill up that meeting room with strong clean energy advocates to demand that the SFPUC staff and General Manager Ed Harrington-

1) Stop attacking the project with bogus claims that clean energy is too expensive to work,

and

2) Insist that SFPUC staff, because of their failed negotiations over the past few months, must now fully defer to Local Power to take the lead role in the contract negotiations so that we have a signed contract by the end of this month that can withstand PG&E's attacks and Prop 16.

Here is the announcement from the SFPUC for the Clean Energy Stewards meeting (if you have questions, call me, Eric Brooks 415-756-8844)...
