Bay Localize depends on a wide range of partners and allies to forward the important work of localizing our economy. We're looking for enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about community resilience and solutions to climate change and oil dependency. INTERNSHIPS:

Green Your City Intern

Building off Bay Localize's innovative Use Your Roof! program, our Green Your City program promotes a broad range of urban sustainability policies, technologies, and strategies. Given the increasing interest in urban agriculture, greywater, permaculture, and green solutions, we have a tremendous opportunity to harness grassroots enthusiasm to help meet the needs of our communities and boost our local economy. Support is needed to help with organizing and outreach for our emerging Grow Local urban ag campaign, conducting research, creating online resources, and assisting with a project at Laney College to boost composting rates on campus.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about community resilience and local action! Primary responsibilities include:

  • Organizing meetings for our Grow Local campaign and securing attendees
  • Developing outreach materials (i.e., posters, fliers, and fact sheets)
  • Getting the word out through community events and gatherings
  • Assisting with Laney College composting project to help raise student awareness

Qualifications:

  • Available 10 hours/week for a minimum of 3 months
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills
  • Self-starter - need to be able to work with minimal supervision and feel comfortable asking questions when stuck
  • Enthusiastic attitude
  • Intermediate computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and databases
  • Knowledge of issues relating to urban agriculture/food systems, ecological justice, and community resilience preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations preferred

Local Clean Energy Organizing Intern

The Local Clean Energy Alliance (LCEA), the Bay Area's largest clean energy coalition, with 90 affiliated member organizations, including environmental justice, social justice, environmental, business, and community groups. The Alliance seeks a motivated and organized intern to assist with our upcoming Clean Power, Healthy Communities conference. This is a great opportunity to gain experience on energy policy advocacy while providing needed assistance with our organizing efforts. This position is out of the office of the LCEA’s host organization, Bay Localize, in downtown Oakland. The internship includes a $320/month expense reimbursement and requires 10 hours/week, to be determined by the applicant and the LCEAWomen, LGBTQI, and people of color are strongly encouraged to apply.

This position is supervised by the LCEA Coordinator. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Helping reach out to speakers and allied organizations about participating at our 3rd annual Clean Power, Healthy Communities conference
  • Helping to generate program agendas, panels, and ideas for the conference
  • Assisting with securing conference co-sponsors
  • Representing LCEA on phone and in-person at selected events
  • Assisting with networking, outreach tasks, and event organizing, as needed

Qualifications:

  • Available 10 hours/week for a minimum of 3 months
  • Good organizing skills, including setting up meetings and events
  • Basic technical skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel
  • Responsible, very organized, and detail-oriented
  • Good written and verbal communication and people skills, in-person and on the phone
  • Quick learner who is interested in learning about local renewable energy systems, sustainable development, community resilience, and social justice
