A deleted scene is footage that has been removed from the final version of a film or television show. There are various reasons why these scenes are deleted, which include time constraints, relevance, quality or a dropped story thread, and can also be due to budgetary concerns. A similar occurrence is offscreen, in which the events are unseen.

A related term is extended scene, the longer version of a scene that was shortened for the final version of the film. Often, extended scenes are included in collections of deleted scenes or are referred to as deleted scenes themselves, as is the case with, for instance, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Serenity.[1][2]

That is most common in the production of television series since networks and channels often must be mindful of how viewers, critics, or censors will react to programming. There may be a fear of losing ratings, being punished by fines or otherwise, or having trouble finding advertisers.

In television serials, however, running time becomes an even greater concern because of the strict timeslot limitations, especially on channels supported by advertisements, and there may be only 20 minutes of actual show per half-hour timeslot. Depending on the station and the particular format of the show, that may or may not include opening credits or closing credits; many ad-supported stations now "squish" the closing credits or force them into a split-screen to show more advertising. Most programs are in either a half-hour or a one-hour timeslot. That forces producers of television serials to break up the acts in a manner that will (hopefully) make the viewer want to continue watching after the ad break and to avoid exceeding the stricter running time limits.[citation needed]

Though the quality of the initial and the final cuts of a film is subjective, a scene or version of a scene in a film may have an adverse effect on the film as a whole. It may slow the film down, provide unnecessary details or exposition, or even explain points that should be implied or said more subtly. It is common to remove such scenes at the editing level, but they may be released on the home video release, as a bonus feature.[citation needed]

There are at least a few examples, including a number of the deleted scenes on the DVD release of the sequel film Serenity (in fact, the audio commentary on the DVD's deleted scenes collection quite often mentions the plot or the tension being disrupted or slowed by including a scene or too much expositional as the main reason for the scene's removal from the final theatrical cut. Another well known example is the cocoon sequence in the film Alien. The scene added a lot of information about the fate of several crew members and new information on the life cycle of the creature, but it was ultimately deleted, as it was thought to slow down and to disrupt the tension of the end of the film.[citation needed]

Deleted or extended scenes may be in any of several different formats. They may or may not feature finished special effects (especially in science fiction and fantasy films in which visual effects are more expensive), and the film quality may or may not be the same as in the rest of the film, but that may depend only on how much post-production editing was done.[citation needed]

Additionally, deleted scenes of animated films may not be in the form of a fully animated scene but instead be included in the form of an animatic or a blooper form, as is the case with the deleted scenes on the DVD release of Pixar's Toy Story and Finding Nemo.[5][citation needed]

YTVs ZAPX sometimes makes "deleted scenes" that are not genuine deleted scenes but random scenes of the movie with footage of the program's host, Simon, inserted into the clip, for that purpose.[citation needed]

I just read the deleted scene that BS wrote to help himself explain what happened to Jasnah. I don't have the link but basically she went to Shadesmar and got stuck. When Shallan went to Shadesmar to SoulCast the boat and sink it, shouldn't she have seen Jasnah, or shouldn't Jasnah have been able to to see her?

Alright, makes sense that Jasnah left before Shallan entered Shademar. I saw that it was mentioned that Jasnah saw her flame, however I just wasn't sure if that was a break in canon, or if there was enough of a gap in time between the two events.

We do not know what happens to Jasnah when Shallan changes the boat which is when Shallan entered shadesmar. Basically the order I believe we have so far is Shallan sees Jasnah stabbed. Shallan hides in room. Jasnah elsecalls to shadesmar completely. Jasnah notices one light going out that a man has died, the same time that pattern tells Shallan one dead, bleeding red (also states men are tied up). Shallan stays still for a bit out of fear, then works her way over to Jasnah's cabin. Meanwhile Jasnah talks to Ivory about the men dying, and trying to get back while Grinders are coming. Realizing she cannot get back, she grabs the ropes, changing them. Jasnah's excerpt ends. Shallan's side she finds the hidden stormlight cache, talks to pattern, her helps her get to shadesmar and she talks to the boat. It is then more people die while talking to the boat, and she transforms it. So we do not know where Jasnah went after she transformed the ropes. She could have fled right after that, which would have been just before Shallan entered Shadesmar.

What i tried to achieve, is modifying an exported project by re-adding the backuped scene, and re-import the project. The problem i have is the hash of the scenes.json file due to deleted scene added in it.

The scene had it been kept in, would make some folks take away any pity they may had for Seth, turning him from a helpless victim to an animal-murdering dickbag. However, I can see what they were ultimately aiming for. What I personally see through my own eyes, was an act of complete desperation. Brundle was halfway through his transformation and scrambling to find a cure as time was running short. You could see the defeat in his mangled face after the terribly gone wrong experiment on the roof, and ummm, ripping off an insect leg that had spawned from his stomach with his mouth. The whole scene is slightly painful to watch, but at least for me, not in a bad sense. There are a LOT of scenes from this film that will make you squirm. In my opinion, the scene with the dog in The Fly 2 was way worse than this.

It might be safe to assume this would only be the first of many more tests and experiments, had it been successful; Or that BrundleFly was only trying to author code specific to re-assembling (or un-mixing) isolated cellular organisms, just to verify his creation were even capable of doing that?

I had 2 scenes and deleted one and it has made all my recent work disappear. I was under the impression that any new work done would be saved to the default layer rather than to the scene but there is nothing there but the base plan. Is there a way to recover items that were attached to a specific scene??

SPOILERS WARNING: Even though this scene was ultimately deleted (or heavily altered), it still contains information and references to things that did make it into the book. I strongly encourage readers to enjoy the published books before proceeding!

The lights were dimmed, casting a romantic glow down the hallway as they made their way toward the front of the ship. The cargo bay had been rearranged so that there was room by the loading ramp for Kai to stand with the bride and groom, and two crates for the rest of the crew to watch. Cress had programmed the screen on the wall to alternate pictures of roses and sunsets and quiet orchestral music alighted from every speaker on the ship.

Hunching her shoulders, Cinder ducked out of their path and went to join the others. Cress had shockingly claimed the seat beside Thorne, so Cinder sat down beside Dr. Erland, who politely held his hat in his lap, letting his gray hair fluff out on the sides of his balding head.

She smiled at Kai, already standing at the front. In his finely embroidered wedding clothes, he was the only one appropriately dressed for the occasion. He returned her smile, but he looked peculiarly nervous.

They stared as the pod lifted shakily and slid into the dock as if afraid. Cinder grimaced as the side of it nearly took out the attached toolboxes on the wall, before it finally settled down, its lights dimming as the engines shut off.

With a curt nod, Cinder spun around and snatched another gun from the crate. She cast a glance at Kai, intent on telling him to stay on the upper deck, but found him already half a step behind Thorne on the way to the hatch.

Without answering, she reached a shaky hand to unlatch the harness over her shoulders and half-climbed, half-fell out of the ship. Dr. Erland caught her, though his own small frame hardly looked strong enough as he struggled to lift her to her feet. Everyone watched on, stunned, as the girl steadied herself and looked up.

When i stopped game using Unity version 4.3.4 it crashed and showed me the bug window, when i loaded Unity again scene was empty and the scene file .unity was deleted, i searched in windows Vista for any .unity file but it was not there.
I didnt make a whole backup of the project and i didnt backup the scene file as i didnt think Unity could have this bug so big. There is any way to get it back or i have to make the game again?

If it was saved to the hard drive, it probably isn't gone yet. It's just that data recovery is more likely to take more work than redoing a scene. At least its just a scene and not the entire project.
