Subject: Seeking Cosponsors: Resolution in Support and Solidarity with Councilman Aaron Starr

Aloha, Colleagues!

I want to thank Chair McMahon for highlighting this important controversy for our Members and for the Chair's commitment to fighting for our LP candidates. This has motivated me to take the next step to make sure Councilmember Aaron Starr has the support from the LNC that he deserves.

I am seeking cosponsors for the following proposed resolution:

RESOLUTION OF THE LIBERTARIAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE

A Resolution in Support of Councilmember Aaron Starr and Condemning Politically Motivated Retaliation

WHEREAS, Aaron Starr has been a steadfast champion of Libertarian principles, a dedicated activist, and a former Treasurer of the Libertarian National Committee; and

WHEREAS, Councilmember Starr has tirelessly defended the taxpayers of Oxnard, California, notably by organizing citizen initiatives and securing a landmark $36.5 million legal judgment against the City to reverse illegal utility rate hikes and halt municipal overreach; and

WHEREAS, Starr has served as a principled, dissenting voice on the Oxnard City Council, refusing to act as a "rubber stamp" for the political establishment and consistently voting to protect the liberties and livelihoods of his constituents; and

WHEREAS, political opponents in Oxnard, unable to tolerate this principled dissent, have orchestrated coordinated attacks against Councilmember Starr, leveling baseless public accusations of a "hostile takeover" merely because he exercised his right to support and fundraise for like-minded, reform-oriented candidates; and

WHEREAS, these retaliatory measures have culminated in unwarranted threats of censure and an ongoing recall effort designed solely to punish and silence a duly elected defender of fiscal responsibility; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the Libertarian National Committee (LNC) categorically condemns the politically motivated attacks, smear campaigns, and recall efforts directed at Councilmember Aaron Starr by the Oxnard political establishment; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the LNC commends Aaron Starr for his unwavering political courage, his successful defense of taxpayers against illegal municipal fees, and his continued dedication to the cause of Liberty; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the LNC stands in full solidarity with Aaron Starr as he continues his fight for government transparency, fiscal restraint, and the individual rights of the people of Oxnard.

Drafted and moved by:
Austin Martin, Region 1 Representative

Post notes:
Similar suppression campaigns have been launched against other elected libertarians, like Mayor Aron Lam; they are usually aimed at mischaracterizing and punishing our elected officers for nothing more than the proper exercise of the duties of their office.

They falsely call our leaders like Mr. Starr "belligerent" to suppress and censor their viewpoints in their committees, relying on majority complicity rather than merits to silence criticism. Against Councilmember Starr, the establishment is twisting facts to justify a baseless recall action. His opponents are even shamelessly smearing his wife solely for being supportive of one of the few remaining public servants with principled integrity. I commend his courage to face down a lawless and hostile board — holding the line for liberty even against coordinated attacks and serious misconduct. This takes real character and deserves respect.

The one thing the attackers did get right is this: we Libertarians really are taking over, and our takeover is absolutely hostile to the corrupt political establishment.

We will not back down.

I thank each of you in advance for your consideration in supporting this resolution.

Mahalo!
Austin Martin
Region 1 Representative

Mr. Martin,

Thank you so much for proposing this resolution. I really appreciate it!

I hope you don't mind, but I phoned Mr. Starr and asked him to take a look at it to see if there are any edits he feels would be helpful, and he said he will look it at quickly and get back to me. I will likely be co-sponsoring but just want to ensure that anything we pass will be as much help as possible to his efforts.

He also asked me to share this Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/recallstarr, that are the people that are getting the signatures for the recall. He said they are very organized and determined.

Mr. Martin,

Mr. Starr forwarded me a slightly modified version of the resolution, as follows:

WHEREAS, Aaron Starr has been a steadfast champion of Libertarian principles, a dedicated activist, and a former Treasurer of the Libertarian National Committee; and
WHEREAS, Councilmember Starr has tirelessly defended the taxpayers of Oxnard, California, notably by organizing citizen initiatives and securing a landmark $36.5 million legal judgment against the City to reverse illegal utility rate hikes and halt municipal overreach; and
WHEREAS, Starr has served as a principled, courageous voice on the Oxnard City Council, refusing to act as a "rubber stamp" for the political establishment and consistently voting to protect the liberties and livelihoods of his constituents; and
WHEREAS, political adversaries in Oxnard, unable to tolerate this principled dissent, have orchestrated coordinated attacks against Councilmember Starr, leveling baseless public accusations of a "hostile takeover" merely because he exercised his right to support and fundraise for like-minded, reform-oriented candidates; and
WHEREAS, these retaliatory measures have culminated in unwarranted threats of censure and a politically motivated recall effort designed solely to punish and silence a duly elected defender of fiscal responsibility; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Libertarian National Committee (LNC) categorically condemns the politically motivated attacks, smear campaigns, and recall efforts directed at Councilmember Aaron Starr by the Oxnard political establishment; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the LNC commends Aaron Starr for his unwavering political courage, his successful defense of taxpayers against illegal municipal fees, and his continued dedication to the cause of Liberty; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the LNC stands in full solidarity with Aaron Starr as he continues his fight for government transparency, fiscal restraint, and the individual rights of the people of Oxnard; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the LNC urges Libertarians nationwide to unite behind this cause and actively combat this sham recall by contributing financially at Aaron Starr's Anedot Donation Page: https://secure.anedot.com/aaronstarr/donate.
Being that your motion isn't fully co-sponsored, would you be opposed to moving the above instead?
