I am seeking cosponsors and support for the following resolution:
We hold that human rights should not be denied or abridged on the basis of nationality. We condemn massive roundups of Hispanic Americans and others by the federal government in its hunt for individuals not possessing required government documents. We strongly
oppose all measures that would punish employers who hire undocumented workers. Such measures repress free enterprise, harass Workers, and systematically discourage employers from hiring Hispanics.
Undocumented non-citizens should not be denied the fundamental freedom to labor and to move about unmolested. Furthermore, immigration must not be restricted for reasons of race, religion, political creed, age, or sexual preference.
We, therefore, call for the elimination of all restrictions on immigration, the abolition of I.C.E. and the Border Patrol, and a declaration of full amnesty for all people who have entered the country illegally.
This resolution's text is from the 1986 Libertarian Party platform, having only updated the agency name as it was renamed when its duties were split. It's also worth pointing out that the Libertarian National
Convention has resolved, without opposition, its support for the abolition of I.C.E. specifically.
It's unfortunate that this 40-year-old text is still directly applicable to today's national political issues.
Both the Republican and Democratic Parties have supported the systemic abuse of migrants, our bloated and immoral immigration system, and the police state which is now wielded against those who support the human rights of migrants regardless of their documentation
status.
The Libertarian Party is the only well-established National Party which has called for the abolition of I.C.E., and which stands against the roundups of undocumented migrants. As such, it is imperative we take a bold stance against the abuse, detention, and
forced deportation of migrants.
