To the Board
I voted against suing Angela McCardle because of the near certainty of significant expense realized by the Party, with the real uncertainty of physically recovering those expenses, even in the event of prevailing in court.
I sponsored the resolution presented to the Libertarian Party Executive Committee to pursue litigation against the Libertarian Party of New Mexico, in part, due to the continued intransigence of LPNM officers in addressing copyright & property issues.
My hope? That the threat of legal action would bring LPNM to the “table” with an opportunity to address these and a series of related issues.
That hope, at least for now, has been realized. Leadership of the LPNM has committed to a meeting Monday evening with the Libertarian National Committee and Free New Mexico with an eye towards resolution. Avoiding costly litigation. Those negotiations
must conclude within the week. In the event of failure, I will motion to recommit this resolution immediately.
I do not revel in this latest saga of Libertarian Game of Thrones. I joined the National Party with the hope of realizing political gains in the fight to achieve true liberty in my lifetime. Instead, I've spent years reacting to the latest litigation du
jour, watching petty power struggles, and endless internal struggles. Meanwhile, our political adversaries grow strong by advancing policy, legislation and community engagement. I can think of few instances where any sort of strategy/tactics have been discussed
at National Meetings.
I realize this may make certain individuals angry. So be it. My responsibility is to the financial health of the organization. And while some may point to the critical nature of our Intellectual Property Rights, a point in which I am in complete agreement,
a few days finally spent in legitimate negotiations in ending this madness, will be time well spent.
Accordingly, I change my vote to expressed abstention
