Subject: Goals

Hello All,

Here are some of the goals that were discussed, Debbie recommends keeping it top 3, and we can point to how we want to achieve our overall goals:

1) Membership & Fundraising
-- $4MM in annual revenue
-- 66,000 members
-- Print newsletter
-- Membership Cards

2) Candidate Support
-- 500 candidates in 26'
-- Candidate training curriculum
-- In-Person trainings

3) Defend the Guard
-- Reaffirm our commitment to DtG
-- Travis Bost as point person

Please list yours, and we will surmise our shared goals for the board for an email ballot.

Sincerely,
Steven Nekhaila

Something I previously discussed with several of you and also mentioned in my election as a regional representative was the establishment of First Nations/American Indian Affiliates. I understand Wisconsin is discussing a proposal related to indigenous people. My goal is to establish a "state level' recognized affiliate to pave the way for Tribes to be recognized and represented from their own jurisdiction as opposed to the states their reservations happen to fall within.

I'm sure this could easily be its own email thread, but I would humbly ask for all your assistance in this endeavor. The LP is the perfect vehicle to push for our sovereignty to be recognized, and we have the opportunity as a party to fundamentally change things in this country in a way that helps "set the world free in our lifetime".

Morning,

Alex - I think that is a really cool idea and is worth discussing more!

I am polling my chairs but some goals we’ve already agreed should be top priority:

50 state ballot access
Membership + fundraising
Strengthening regional resources

Thanks,

As mentioned last night, my two major priorities are:

Membership and Fundraising which would include working with the states to increase membership at both levels (unified membership is a big part of that).

Affiliate Support which would include setting up regional training to help states with both organization and candidate support (much the way trainings were done in the past). I believe that politics is local, so helping the states (and by extension the counties) is the best way to ensure we have the maximum number of candidates in winnable races.

And as a third, I would agree that 50 state ballot access for our presidential ticket is extremely important. It's the main thing that sets us apart from the other third parties.

Subject: Re: Goals

Many thanks for getting this started, Steven—and thanks to all for a productive discussion at last night's meeting (with a special shout-out to all in the gallery).

To that end, here are my thoughts on goals:

PREAMBLE (it's barely a preamble; don't worry):
The Libertarian Party is the political vehicle for the liberty movement. We achieve our successes through policy and leadership; and we generate the social momentum necessary to attain that success by cultivating the assets at our disposal as well as building new ones.

One of our core assets is our membership. If we want to grow our membership and build an active, engaged member base, we need to give those members greater agency and engagement/leadership opportunities at the National and interstate levels.

I urge that we provide these opportunities especially through the following arenas:

  1. Issue and policy advocacy, involving communication and increased mass uptake of tangible policy goals and demands (falls under affiliate support when it comes to on-the-ground action)—this way, we make sure that the first time voters hear about libertarians isn't at the ballot box; and we make ourselves unavoidable in the press. We need to make sure that our actions, and not just our or our candidates' words, brand specific causes and issues as "libertarian". This is critical. We also need to be making headlines with the work that we do, not merely responding to them with important but insufficient press releases and write-ups.
    This means concentrating on:
    1. Single-issue coalition opportunities: Being out and loud about tangible policy goals means that WE are driving the agenda when it comes to these coalitions, and insulating ourselves against co-optation even when we partner with otherwise unaligned groups or put ourselves at the helm of larger, big-tent movements.
    2. Policy support for candidates: A working policy committee at the National level would help develop agendas and libertarian policy overviews for specific issue items (e.g., surveillance, qualified immunity, school choice, certificate of need/occupational licensing) in tandem with affiliates and individual candidates, in order to make sure that locale- and office-relevant policies are promoted on the trail. Policy support also includes policy guidance for candidates while in office.
      1. As stated above, I would love to see a working policy committee at the National level, interfacing closely with affiliates and local candidates so that we are making sure to magnify issues that matter on the ground.
    3. Nationwide advocacy and volunteer support: My understanding is that we used to have a paid activism coordinator. We likely aren't at the budget for that yet, but it's something in which I'd look forward to investing in the not-too-distant future. In the meantime, I'm willing to take the lead on overseeing the development of infrastructure that can connect members to vetted libertarian causes and action opportunities near them; and have already been in talks with members in this regard.
    4. Proactive resolutions: I would love to see every resolution we pass conclude with a commitment to specific, material action items.
  1. Media and speaking opportunities—A thriving communications and publication arm is central to our success going forward. Among other wins, we should aim at:
    1. Curating a member-based speakers' bureau of issue experts to speak to diverse audience (and working with our communications team toward this end)
    2. Increasing advantageous Party media hits, both in quantity and in variety of outlets. In particular, we should be seeking out outlets with as-yet untapped, or under-tapped, audiences containing viable prospective members.
Our communications team has a central role to play in both of the above respects.
  1. Infrastructure overhaul—Across the board, the way we communicate and share resources with members needs mass improvements.
    1. A discussion forum that includes spaces for members to workshop ideas, for affiliates and intra-Party coalitions to share minutes and engagement opportunities, and for candidates to post calls for support, is an excellent start.
    2. The webpage should also link to affiliate pages, with updated bylaws, platforms, and other essential documents available for public viewing.

And, of course...

  1. 50-state ballot access by 2028. No sub-items needed.

Finally, seeing Alex's email: I'd be thrilled to work with you on First Nations recognition. Please let me know what you need to get this moving, or let's set up a time to talk about this in depth.

Aloha, everyone!

Goal:

We need to find a cure for USAIDs.

We must save the Libertarian Party from becoming the very thing we oppose, resisting interventions & insurgencies from deep-state compromised organizations with their own agenda — like CATO and the Atlas Network.

That is all.

The distinct and unique purpose of the Libertarian Party from all other organizations is as a vehicle to run Libertarian candidates for government office. To do that the Libertarian Party requires ballot access and candidates running. We support those efforts with members who volunteer and fund with donor contributions. These efforts are done at national, state and local affiliate levels.

Therefore our goals are growth of:
Ballot Access
Candidates
Memberships
Fundraising
Affiliates

Fellow colleagues,

I agree with most of the other suggestions and won't reach them.

I believe we should begin again pursuing college outreach programs, possibly consulting with Dr. Lark of VA given his work in youth outreach on previous LNCs.

I also want to maintain a balanced budget and only fund programs and initiatives when money has been raised or guaranteed.

To that end, if you are reading the public list and have a program or committee you'd like to support, please consider donating at LP.org/donate. There are a lot of good goals mentioned by my peers and it takes funding to make many of them happen.

If your membership has lapsed, there is no time like today to join again for $25 annually. I recommend $5 or more, a month donation if you can afford it. Recurring donations really help in budgeting and planning!

Respectfully,

So far I resonate most strongly with this stated goal. In my view, a healthy organization is financially stable and solvent. I think it would be prudent to prioritize this achievement, in the same way we advocate for the government to pursue financial accountability.

Greetings.

Id like to add an additional goal.

Prevent fragmentation.

We are currently looking at a couple of items pertaining to state affiliates that unless handled with great care, could lead to fragmentation across the party, if the passions people have about them were to spiral out of control.

Remember that one our chief duties as LNC members is to try and create conditions that hold the party together nationally.

I would encourage all of you to always consider carefully the decisions we make, and to avoid acting unilaterally whenever possible.

People have trusted us with the future of the national party, at least for this term.

We should endeavor to honor that trust.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
