First off, I would like to say that I like the fact that we have no plank on abortion. What it allows is for all libertarians to have their own point of view on the issue. The answer to the question, "What does the Libertarian Party say about abortion?' Is "Ask a libertarian." This is one subject that I believe if we asked 20 libertarians about we'll get 25 different answers, lol. There is no consensus within the party so therefore the issue should stay out of the platform. That said, if the committee is dead set on proposing language I would like to offer up the following language that I believe allows the same freedoms to all members and candidates no matter what side of the issue they come down on. For your consideration:
ABORTION- Recognizing that pregnancy is a special situation, where reasonable people disagree on when new life obtains personhood, and once obtained, how to balance that new person's rights with the pregnant woman's, we welcome members with diverse views on the topic and encourage civil dialogue and debate.
