Field value rewrite

Hi 

I have some log fields with very long values, like "very-long-label<uuid>", I'd like to shorten to something like "L-<uuid>", I understand value 'rewriter' can be used to map existing value to new value using SQL query, but not sure it can help in my case, any suggestion? 

BTW,  I have too many very long log lines that won't fit on my ultra-wide terminal, unwrapping logs works but the logs are less readable, I'd like to shorten them if possible.
