This project, administered by John Snow, Inc. (JSI) as part of a contract it has with the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP), will fund non-profit, community-based organizations with budgets less than $750,000 to implement projects that address Healthy People 2020 overarching goals, topic areas and objectives and integrate at least one of the following Healthy People 2020 Community Innovation Project priorities: environmental justice, health equity, and healthy behaviors across all life stages. As many as 170 projects will be given between $5,000 to $10,000 to conduct projects between December 1, 2011 and May 31, 2012. 
 
 
Those who did not take part in the bidders conference in June are still welcome to submit an application. The deadline for submitting an application in response to this Request for Proposal (RFP) is Friday, August 5, 2011. More details are included in the attached Healthy People 2020 RFP, which is also available online at www.healthypeople.gov .

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Grants FY 2011

Description: These projects aim to fund grantees who then must competitively subgrant a portion of the federal funds to eligible organizations to plan and carry out direct service activities on the 2012 Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend.

Eligibility:  This funding opportunity is open to nonprofit providers, including faith-based and community organizations.

Funding: Up to seven awards, with funding up to $300,000 each.

The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is pleased to announce the release of the FY 2011 Request for Applications (RFA) for the People's Garden Grant Program (PPGP).  The program is designed to facilitate the creation of produce, recreation, and/or wildlife gardens in urban and rural areas, which will provide opportunities for science-based informal education. This program is a joint initiative supported by USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Food and Nutrition Service, Forest Service, and Natural Resources Conservation Service, in addition to NIFA. Successful applicants will provide micro-subgrant support to smaller local projects.  

Deadline:  Applications must be received by Grants.gov by 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday, August 26, 2011.

State of Environment "Locations" Photo Challenge
 
Based on the 1970s Documerica collection of environmental photos, this "challenge" is to submit a new photo you took showing how that location looks different.
 
At a time when we are especially encouraged to take deserted open spaces and transform them into parks, playgrounds and other spaces that encourage physical activities THIS could be a great challenge for you!
 
This challenge ends on April 22, 2012.

Teen Substance Abuse Awareness through Music Contest
 
This contest involves participants submitting a creative music video or original music/lyrics composition that celebrates healthy and creative living or accurately portrays the dangers of drug abuse.
 
The first place winner will be invited to Los Angeles to attend teh 54th annual Grammy Awards.
