Oursecurity measures are designed to protect information assets such as printed documents, address books and the like against information leaks, data alteration, denial-of-service attacks, and other such threats while maintaining the three security attributes (CIA): Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability.

Super Resolution is integrated via the KX printer driver, allowing you to print low-resolution photos in high quality. The function recognises images by comparing it with information on the internet and converts low-resolution photos, and logo images to higher resolutions.

Erase and Highlight Handwriting allows the user to emphasise the handwritten part of the document without changing the format or image. This functionality is exceptionally beneficial for proofreading documents, questionnaires, documents, drawings, etc., especially when reviewing thin lines and small characters.

when setting PrinterName using rptClientDoc.PrintOutputController.ModifyPrinterName(PrinterName) with current Kyocera KX Driver (eg Kyocera TASKalfa 3554ci KX) we get an exception "Invalid printer specified".

There is a possibility R&D won't be able to fix this, Crystal 8.5 has thousands of lines of code to "work around" third party issues. In CR 9 They decided it was no long something we should fix, if there is an issue the makers had to fix it according to the standards. R&D gave me a test app but I don't know if I can attach it to this new format, it was a simple test app that removed CR from the dependencies and shows the problem for another issue a driver had.

we experience this problem with different printer manufacturers (e.g. Sharp, UTAX and Kyocera also). Sharp told us to use an universal driver.

We found that this problem only occurs when printing to a problematic printer that is not the default printer. It is not a solution, but perhaps a viable workaround, to make it the default printer.

Often when this type of error occurs it's can be due to your Use account doesn't have rights to access all properties of the Printer, see if your IT department can log into your PC as a Local Admin and run VS by right clicking on it and selecting Run as Administrator and see if that works.

The printer driver is responsible for communicating with your computer. Drivers often become outdated or incompatible with your system after an upgrade. Or you may have accidentally installed an incorrect driver and this can cause the printer to malfunction.

There are some instances where your printer fails to clear its queue. If you encounter a paper jam or your printer configuration has been set up incorrectly, the system will not consider the print job done. And if you attempt to print again, the previous job that was halted will not make way for the new job and you will receive an error message like the one below:

First, start by opening the print queue and click directly on the status message to take you there. You will likely notice that multiple jobs are stuck and they all have an Error notification.

If your printer is connected via a network, then a standard TCP/IP port must be configured with a valid IP Address programmed. The IP address must then match with the same IP that has been programmed on your device.

Alternatively, if the driver is set up via a server queue, you may be limited to making changes to the print driver as this is controlled by the network administrator, you may then need to contact your internal network department in this case.

On a 2016 MacBook Pro with macOS 10.14.4 beta (developer access to beta releases), just today, I spent hours today, and actually I haven't succeeded in 2-years, trying to install print drivers that work on my networked Kyocera Mita KM-4035 printer in my office. However, I have found a solution.

It's crucial to note that the newest drivers do not work on Mojave or any macOS version past 10.5 (I have not documented the testing earlier versions in the last two years, but since Kyocera offers drivers for those versions, I'm assuming they work for those versions, but I wouldn't bet on it.) The secret is to use Linux PPD drivers. I'm reading they worked on macOS 9, as well. Here is the source article:

Note that PPD probably has limitations that using TCP/IP does not. If not, I've read it has limitations compared to the capabilities of the Kyocera drivers using the HP Jetdirect - Socket. (It's working for printing what I want to print, though, so I'm elated.)

I am working on printer deployments and have a question. I can push the HP or Xerox printer drivers to a machine, however the files are usually in .gz format. This is an issue since Casper wants the PPD file. Is there a more direct way to get the ppd sent to the machine? Do I need to script this, or am I making this harder than it needs to be? Thanks for any help!

I handle all printer installations via script. It just makes it easier for me that way not having to use Casper to capture the printer. I'll install driver packages if necessary, then run the script as an after item.

I locate the appropriate driver in the /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources directory. Most drivers sit right there, but then our Xerox 560/570/C70 printers drop their Fiery drivers into en.lproj in that directory structure (and they do not end in .gz).

I create (and maintain) a regular old composer package of all the PPD's for all of the printers onsite. It was a bit tedious to create (we have many many printer models) but I know I will now avoid the dreaded "Generic printer" when there is no PPD present. I find that as long as the printer gets a valid PPD at time of setup, software update will take over and keep things up to date from then on.

For network printers I will install the drivers using a package and then after creating the queue on one station I added it the JSS using Casper Admin. I can then deploy the printer to whatever station I want using a policy.

I have having issues pointing ricoh IM c2500 drivers as you mentioned. In the /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources folder, the Ricoh printer driver is not a gz or ppd file, rather it is a Document folder. How would i use this file as the PPD file?

The printer info is all kept in /etc/cups. Specifically you have the printers.conf that contains all the queue information.

So just tar up that directory and the ppd directory and it should give you everything you need. Install the drivers first to be safe.

@achristoforatos sorry, I don't use Paper Cut so I cannot definitively answer that. How do you add printers for Paper Cut currently? If the only difference is the address format, or something like that, I'm sure you could probably use the lpadmin command to do so.

I wanted to thank you for the great post, also, at the MacAdmins conference this last year Scott Blake did a printer setup session which was very informative.

I only have one more hurdle. How do you make a printer to be the default by scripting it? Casper allows that if you check the button for make printer default and it works flawlessly. My scripts are running good thanks to you and Scott but I cannot seem to get that to work. I have tried every command possible and I can't set the printer to default. Do you know how that is done? I would like to thank you in advance for any information that you share.

AirPrint is a technology built into most popular printer models, including those listed here. With AirPrint technology, it's easy to print full-quality photos and documents from your Apple device. AirPrint features include easy discovery, automatic media selection, and enterprise-class finishing options.

The printers, print servers, and USB-only devices listed here are provided by each manufacturer and updated regularly by Apple. If you don't see your model, check with the manufacturer for more information.

To use AirPrint, you don't need to install an app, additional drivers, or other software. Just connect the AirPrint printer to your Wi-Fi network, then choose it in the print dialog when you print from your Mac or print from your iPhone or iPad, for example.

Similar to AirPrint printers, these USB devices allow you to print or scan without having to install additional drivers. Because they require a USB connection, they support driverless printing or scanning only from Mac computers.
