Greetings Cycling Friends,
Just back from the National Bike Summit in Washington DC and we are incredibly excited to be putting the finishing touches on our own Michigan Bicycle Summit coming up in less than two weeks. I hope you will join the League of Michigan Bicyclists and our friends at the Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance on March 25-26 in Lansing.
Whether you're an advocate or a bike enthusiast or both, we have a variety of great sessions and speakers for you. And the networking and camaraderie can't be beat! You'll even get a glimpse of the latest cycling fashions at this year's event! Learn about complete streets, what cities are doing to increase bike parking opportunities, how bike coops are filling in the gaps for bikeable communities and much, much more. And of course Jim Sayer, Executive Director of Adventure Cycling, and Gregory Johnson, Director of Operations for MDOT, will provide interesting perspectives on this mode of transportation and recreation we all love! See below fore more details.
Saturday, March 26 – Michigan Bicycle Summit (Peckham Industries, Lansing)
Saturday will feature Jim Sayer, Executive Director of Adventure Cycling Association as our keynote speaker and will feature 15 workshops. Topics include US Bike Route System, bicycle safety education, Michigan bicycle co-ops, bicycle parking innovations and best practices, thinking beyond the bike lane, information on how to organize a local bike summit, funding for bicycle facilities, three different Complete Streets trainings, and more. Please see our website for workshop presenters and descriptions:
The theme of this year's Summit is "A bicycle friendly Michigan is a _______ Michigan." We are encouraging bicyclists to fill in the "blank" with what a bicycle friendly state means to you. You can add your thoughts to the comments section on our website.
Registration for Saturday is $45 for individuals and $75 for exhibitors.
Friday, March 25th – Award Reception & Panel Discussion (REO Art Alley, Lansing)
The Friday night before the Bicycle Summit will once again feature LMB’s Annual Awards Reception. Gregory Johnson, Chief Operations Officer for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be our featured speaker, followed by a panel discussion with Jim Sayer (Adventure Cycling), Gregory Johnson (MDOT), Nancy Krupiarz (Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance) and Rich Moeller (LMB). Our panelist will participate in a lively discussion of some of today’s hot bicycling issues. Each panelist will bring a different perspective to the topic. It promises to be a fun night for all.
Friday evening’s reception is free and will be from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at REO Art Alley,1133 South Washington Ave. Lansing, MI 48910. Food and refreshments will be served.
Space is limited for both events, so please make sure to register as soon as possible. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
