Dear LL.M. alumni,
I hope you are all keeping well. As many of you may have learnt by now, I had relocated to NLSIU Bengaluru in June 2024. One of my senior colleagues, Prof. Sarasu Esther Thomas, has recently joined as the Director at the Manipal Law School in Bengaluru. She is looking to build up the faculty strength at her new institution.

Since it is a privately run law school, they are initially offering teaching positions on a contractual basis with a gross pay of Rs. 9-10 Lakhs per annum. Those who may be interested in the same can directly write to Prof. Sarasu Esther Thomas (with a CV and a writing sample) at the following email IDs:

I would like to clarify that I am only passing on this information at her request. I have no role to play in the faculty selections at Manipal Law School. In recent years, many colleagues and former students have attributed several actions to me which are well beyond my competence and knowledge.

Regards,
Sidharth Chauhan

Dear LL.M. alumni,
I had earlier shared the update about moving to NLSIU Bengaluru in June 2024. This is to seek your help in spreading the word about an online certificate course offered by this institution.

The 'Foundations For A Legal Education' (FLE) certificate course offered by NLSIU Bengaluru is delivered online over four weeks. It is meant for those who are planning to study law. This year, it will consist of 16 sessions (of 2 hours each) organised into four modules, namely (1) Reading Closely, (2) Thinking Critically, (3) Writing Clearly and (4) Speaking Persuasively.

The deadline for enrolments is May 04, 2025 and the online classes will be held between May 06-30, 2025. More details are available on the website of the Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) Department at NLSIU: https://pace.nls.ac.in/programmes/foundations-for-a-legal-education/

Here is the link for a promotional video uploaded on the 'NLSIU Official' Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1o9kTD5_YAc&t=11s

Dear LL.M. Alumni,
I am writing to update you about the NLSIU Research Fellowships initiated during the Academic Year 2025-2026. The University is accepting applications on a rolling basis for the following three levels of fellowships:

(1) Graduate Research Fellowships: Targeted at those who have completed a bachelor's degree in law or a masters degree in a cognate discipline. They can be pursued on a short-term basis (3-6 months) or a long-term basis (1-2 years).

(2) Postdoctoral Fellowships: Meant for those who have completed a Ph.D. within the last 3 years and are looking to convert their thesis into scholarly publications. They can be pursued for 1-2 years.

(3) University Research Fellowships: Designed to attract senior scholars who hold a Ph.D. and have at least 10 years of experience in full-time teaching or research. They can be pursued for 1-2 years.

We have recently welcomed Dr. Mayur Suresh as a University Research Fellow and Dr. Shireen Azam as a Postdoctoral Fellow, following a highly competitive selection process. The initial set of Graduate Research Fellows will also be joining soon. The deadline for the next cycle of applications is February 28, 2026. The online application forms require the following documents:

(1) An Updated CV
(2) Statement of Purpose (SoP)
(3) A Research Proposal that outlines the proposed theme, research questions and methodology for producing fresh scholarly publications
(4) A Writing Sample, preferably an article in a peer-reviewed journal, a chapter from a book, chapters from dissertations or a long-form essay.

For more details, please visit the following link:

Please help us in spreading the word about these fellowships. Those who have recently completed a Ph.D. can consider applying for the Postdoctoral Fellowships, while those who are either currently pursuing a Ph.D or are interested in gaining research experience can apply for the Graduate Research Fellowships. You can write to me at sidharth...@nls.ac.in if you have any queries about the application process.
