Greetings,

I wanted to update you on what is happening in SW Ohio to celebrate
the bicentennial of LLL's birth. First, we are planning a pdf
brochure giving information about and directions to notable LLL sites
that people may wish to visit. We are featuring the Langstroth
Cottage at Miami University, Langstroth's grave at Woodlawn Cemetery
in Dayton, and the grave of Charles Muth in Cincinnati. I will soon
post the url for the brochure download.

I am also organizing a public program on hives and Langstroth we hope
to hold at the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal.

I have had discussions with faculty at Miami University and the Museum
Center to discuss possible exhibits or other displays at Langstroth's
cottage and the Museum Center to bring LLL's contributions to the
public.

Finally, Dr. May Berenbaum from the University of Illinois and I are
organizing a formal scientific symposium at the national meetings of
the Entomological Society of America to explore LLL and changes in
beekeeping since his time. If approved, the symposium will take place
in San Diego, CA between Dec 12-15, 2010.

I will post more on these projects as information develops. For now I
just wanted everyone to know what is happening in Ohio.

Cheers,
Gene Kritsky
