However, right now, creating glTF assets is very difficult-- there are a few ways of converting existing formats but most of them are extremely cumbersome, require other software (Blender, for example), and are generally not very robust yet.
I believe plane glTF exporter won't be not enough. To do real stuff like 3D configurator, product showcase or AR/VR app you need some full-featured tool capable of animation, complex lighting and interactivity. Check out Verge3D for Maya released recently and compare its features to the features offered by glTF-2.0.
EVERY major dcc has GLTF support. GLTF is a defacto standard for VR/WEB/Mobile. Why do we always have to rely on external stuff to do trivial stuff inside Maya ? So if nobody is able to code a GLTF exporter at AD. Please COPY / PASTE this code and make it default plugin inside Maya.
According to a statement in the BabylonJS forum, they are stopping the development of their MAYA exporter because Autodesk is about to relase their own one.
Is there any time estimation to that release?
They show a video of a "beta" exporter for MAX, and it is VERY limited.
I really hope Autodesk exporter can do, at least, the same as BabylonJS one for God sake.
Any news about a glTF exporter for Maya 2024? Can anyone from AD leave a comment? As there is no more exporter from the Babylon team for 2024, it is not possible to export a glTF from Maya anymore. Unbelievable.
Guess we all should wait until USD is the holy grail for web 3D content. So speak you again in 10 years, friends. What a ridiculous company policy!
"OpenUSD will join other standards like glTF for sharing small 3D assets and 3D tiles for streaming digital twin views. USD has been called the HTML of 3D content since it provides a framework for efficiently organizing collections of objects into various perspectives. In contrast, glTF is more like the GIF format for sharing individual objects." (Steve May, CTO of Pixar and the new Chairman of AOUSD)

SimLab is founded in 2007. It is a 3D software development company. It can develop 3D products. SimLab is very easy to use. SimLab creates SimLab DWG file exporter. SimLab is a DWG file exporter. SimLab export files to SketchUp and vice versa. SimLab can be used in specific versions. Ther versions are mentioned below.
I am on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and ROS Kinetic right now and trying to import a model that I designed in SolidWorks (a simple tree made with sticks, its in a .sldprt file) into my Gazebo simulation. I know that URDF files only support .stl and collada (.dae) files and that I should use .stl files for the collision tag and .dae for the visual tag. I can properly export my model using the SolidWorks2URDF plugin ( _urdf_exporter ) and I get a package with an URDF file which includes an .stl file for both visual and collision tags, because the exporter doesn't export any collada (.dae) files.
I tried to use the SimLab Soft Collada Exporter for SolidWorks to export my model into to a collada file but when I tried to use it in the simulation, the only thing that appears is a white cube (???) and I don't know why because if I open the file in FreeCad, I can see my tree with no problems, except the fact that it is colourless and I don't know why... first my model had a wood appearence but then I changed it to a brown color, just to check that the appearance had nothing to do with this, but I still see the white cube as my visual object while my collision object (orange) stays correct:
I have also tried to convert my model file from .sldprt to .stp file (format 214 so that it also has colors but not appearances) and follow the steps in here =gu... to convert my file into a collada one but everything remains the same.
solved the problem. When a white cube appears on Gazebo that means that the path to the visual mesh in not well specified. I guess I wasn't expecting this error because I was using the package finder, but when I used the full path the tree appear and everything seemed to be fine. After that I changed to the package finder once again and I got no errors so it seems that the first time I inserted the path I must have misspelled something...
The SimLab Collada Exporter ( -soft.com/3d-plugin... ) is supported on SolidWorks 2013 and more recent versions. It is a payed software but you can use a free trial license for 30 days that works just fine. Keep in mind that this plugin can't export any appearances to a COLLADA file, only normal colors, i.e., the RBG combinations.
Combining this 2 SolidWorks plugins allowed me to fully export a SolidWorks model, which is something that I think that is not well documented on the Internet so I hope this helps you all as it helped me.
The SimLab Android / iPad exporter for Alibre Design plugin enables Alibre users to export their 3D models to iPad, iPhone, and Andriod. The plugin exports Alibre 3D models in *.zim file format, a native SimLab Soft file format, readable by the free application SimLab CAD Viewer for iPad / iPhone and Android.
Hello,I installed simlab 2.2 , but when I configure factors, method and sample file, the program closes automatically! I guse mabe it does because of installation fault, or its version. whould anyone please helpe me about its reason? Thank You
Simlab is an addon for Revit whereby you can export a Revit 3D view into a normal PDF and anyone can then view that 3D view opening the PDF. For more information you can visit -software/process-automation/simlab-plugins-for-revit/
The Simlab PDF Settings area is where you select your titleblock to use for exporting a 3D view with. Now select the template you would like to use and click Edit to get into the SimLab template editor. I just selected one of the standard templates that come with the software as an example.
Inside this Template editor, you can also insert images, draw lines, add text and many other visual editing tools to customize a standard template. Once you have completed the template editing you should Save your changes. See below.
