Subject: Job Opening at CodeBrave
To:

Dear Friends of CodeBrave,

Happy New Year!

We are recruiting a new part-time coding and robotics teacher at CodeBrave. We'd love if you could share this message with your network and anyone who fits the below description.

In particular, we are looking for someone who has the same love for innovation and learning that we do.

The teacher will help design and teach our coding and robotics classes for youth aged 8-18 at Home of Hope a shelter for refugee and Lebanese youth in Kahaleh. We are working on practical applications of coding like mobile robots and precision farming devices. We are passionate about giving these youth life skills through fun, project-based classes that build their confidence and motivation to learn. Ultimately, the objective of the project is to improve the students’ job prospects, whether in the technology field or elsewhere.

Responsibilities and Skills:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver 5 classes per week to students age 8-18, with support from current Hope Academy teachers. Time spent on class preparation is key to the success of the program.

  • Help develop a curriculum with various classes that aim to improve students’ basic literacy and numeracy, soft skills (teamwork, problem solving, resilience) and technical skills. Courses should be engaging and developmentally appropriate for varying levels of ability.

  • In close collaboration with the Project Managers, design and carry out ongoing evaluation of students’ progress toward all four course objectives (basic literacy, basic numeracy, soft skills and technical skills) through in-class and end-term assessments.

  • Communicate issues immediately to Hope of Hope staff and Project Managers.

  • Effectively manage the classroom by implementing discipline, time management, and organization.

  • Participate in teacher training, both technical and pedagogical.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proven experience of technical skills in coding and robotics (degree in computer science preferred but not essential).

  • Experience teaching children with traumatic backgrounds is preferable but not essential.

  • Excellent facilitation skills with the ability to motivate, direct, and train youth.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and productively.

  • Experience with Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) is well regarded but not essential.

  • Must demonstrate a high level of initiative.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Submit a CV and contact details for two references familiar with your professional or academic performance and character to steven...@gmail.com and clementin...@gmail.com

Duration of contract and payment The contract will have an initial two month trial period from 15 January 2018 to 15 March 2018 with likely extension based on performance. The position will be remunerated at $20 per hour of teaching (with an assumption of preparation time outside of class hours).

With thanks,

Clementine and Steven
