Coding Teaching Position Summary:

The teacher will help design and teach our coding and robotics classes for youth aged 8-18, including programming Arduinos and web development. We are passionate about giving these youth life skills through fun, project-based classes that build their confidence and motivation to learn. Ultimately, the objective of the project is to improve the students’ job prospects, whether in the tech field or elsewhere.

 

In particular, we are looking for someone who has the same love for innovation and learning that we do.


Responsibilities and Skills:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver five 50-minute classes per week to students age 8-18 in Kahaleh, Mount Lebanon. Each classes contains 6-7 students.
  • Contribute to the development of CodeBrave’s curriculum ensuring a focus on improving students’ soft skills (teamwork, problem solving, resilience) as well as their technical skills. Classes should be engaging and developmentally appropriate for varying levels of ability.
  • In close collaboration with the Project Managers, design and carry out ongoing Monitoring & Evaluation of students’ progress toward all four course objectives (basic literacy, basic numeracy, soft skills and technical skills) through in-class and end-term assessments.
  • Effectively manage the classroom by implementing discipline, time management, and organization. 
  • Participate in teacher training, both technical and pedagogical.
  • Ability to commute in inclement weather conditions.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proven experience of technical skills in coding and robotics. Computer Science degree preferable but not essential.
  • Experience teaching children with traumatic backgrounds is preferable but not essential.
  • Excellent facilitation skills with the ability to motivate, direct, and train youth.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and productively.
  • High level of initiative and motivation.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English.

Duration of contract and payment:

The contract will have an initial two month trial period from 1 February 2018 to 31 March 2018 remunerated at $20 per hour of teaching, with likely extension based on performance. After April, there is an option for the contract to become a salaried position at $1000 a month based on 50% of time.
