Is this a fall out of this new list, ll-next? Or was the conference
already in the works?

Totally unrelated to this list as far as I know!

Here's some additional details on it:

Lang.NEXT is a small cross-industry conference for programming language designers and implementers, and takes place on the Microsoft main campus in Redmond. The focus is on a broad and free exchange of ideas across industry and academia. The conference is free and by invitation only. We expect about 150 participants from a big span of communities and aim to attract the best speakers in the field for great talks, provocative panels and good discussions. Lang.NEXT is a revival of the Lang.NET conference we ran until a few years ago, but with a slight one-letter change of brand since it is no longer particularly .NET focused.

Talks will be about 40-60 mins (TBD) and we hope for a broad range of topics covering as many interesting languages and approaches as we can cram in. The audience will be from all over, with many different backgrounds represented. Martin Odersky will keynote the event.

... hope that helps.
