1 - Movie night

-- I have email Aida for reserving a room and am still waiting for her reply.
-- Dennis can't make it because he is out of town.

Hi everyone,

Just want to get everyone's last minute input on the date/time of the movie.  I was told that there are two classes on Tuesday evening from 6:30-9:30, plus a Stats tutorial from 5-6.  I wanted to flag this in case it would take away from our movie attendance and instead propose what if we did it on Thursday, Nov 8th, 5:30pm.   Thoughts?  I know we need to decide ASAP, so if you have an opinion please chime in.  

Sorry I'm so late in joining this conversation - I only just accepted invitation to Google docs.  Shameful, I know.

Lucy, the invitation was already sent on Facebook and we already got 20 confirmations on Facebook! So I think we should keep it on Tuesday... On Thursday there is one class until late too (Envir. Econ...).

 

I am planning the food...it will be organic (hopefully). I will try to get snacks from Cedele, they have some good options and it doesn't cost too much (I think it would less expensive than having a catering). Will let you know as soon as I have a budget from them.

For food, go to Locavore Singapore on Facebook.  Not very active, but might be interesting.  Looks like they might be someone who can provide local foods!  Also, maybe they can come and speak to how we can eat more locally in Singapore.

A3 would be good, and I can print on Monday morning and put it up at 3-4 places (optimal/ need more?). (1. Canteen lift, 2. Near staircase between MM SR 1 and 2, any other place that comes to mind?)

Thanks a lot Anna. I like the blurb, it seems catchy. I would keep it, what do the others think? Lets see what the popular vote is by the end of the day.

As for other locations, I would say that 2 posters on the cafeteria's glass windows and another in Sapore would be good enough.

I´d like to put in the agenda for later discussion to change the name of the group to something more catchy and maybe come up with a simple logo you know, is all about marketing :P 

I support removing that part, I think it already has too many letters. 

What happened to the mass email to the entire school?? a lot of people do not use facebook, If the email to the entire school is not possible, let´s at least email the poster and an event invite to our cohorts.

We need to create a logo for sure! And this is urgent...

 

Can you all meet on Friday, Nov 30? It should be a long meeting this time. I think we need some hierarchical structure: defning some roles in the group will be easier to coordinate activities and we can make sure that thinks will happen. Also, we will define activities and deadlines for the next semester. Lets discuss the name and logo of the group too.

May I also mention that there is a group called Green Drinks Singapore (look them up on Facebook) and they will be having their monthly networking event on Nov 29.  We should all go - it's after our Micro exam, so we will need it!  I will send you more info.  My thoughts on the group are to meet people in Singapore working in the green space for potential speakers and jobs/intern opportunities.

Sue, I've attached a final version of the poster. Its in powerpoint, so you can make any changes. Have added that this is our inaugural event (does that sound okay Rafael? I couldn't fit in "Launching Environmental Committee" with the flow), have kept the blurb based on the votes. I'm also attaching a jpeg version (jpeg gives the best picture display if I'm right?).

I completely agree with Sue on the logo and it's marketing importance. Would love to join that discussion. We could even have a tagline. I stumbled upon this beautiful line while I was searching for poster backgrounds, "Be the change, not the footprint".

But I didn't ask her to do anything for us, I just asked her how to do and she told me that we could print A3 regularly...

 

I can print A4 here (A4 is the regular size, right?), in my place... I am going to school in one hour, will bring 4 copies with me.

Pls, bring your cups/mugs since we are not using plastic cups (I will send an email/facebook post asking people to bring their own cups, but if you can bring some extra)!

Dear all, 

It was great meeting this morning with the Office of Environmental Sustainability (OES).  There will be a staff member from the team joining us for the movie tomorrow and she will say a few words on their work. 

A few points of summary: 

• OES has bikes (not new, but functioning) that they will give us for free.  The bikes can go on and off campus with the understanding that cyclists are ALWAYS riding at their own risk.  The university is not responsible for anyone injured on or off campus.  There is an existing group called NUS BIKES that is based in Kent Ridge that may be interesting for the future. 

• Great timing for OES and LKY Enviro Group!  They are starting a new campaign called sustainABLE NUS where students/staff pledge where they are ABLE to contribute to reducing water consumption etc.  They are rolling this out soon and need a BTC focal group, which can be us.  They are looking for Sustainability champions (students or staff) and we could go the champions for BTC.  That would make us the first student group of Champions!!! 

• Canteen - they already have a plan for making it more eco and this will include certification under a Singaporean council for something or other.

• Energy audit - is going on as we speak!  They already have some figures for all of BTC's energy use. 

• Key Dates next semester:  Jan - OES launches results of BTC energy audit at BTC.  We can have a booth and plan other things around that.  Around Mar 16 - Singapore PUB (utilities company) will be having a World Water Week.  They will be showcasing NUS efforts on reducing water consumption.  We can be a part of this and schedule Dennis (Water Policy Institute) to speak and other events related to this high publicity national event.  

There is more to share but that's the a good place to start and get everyone thinking about next semester!

Hey guys!

Tomorrow we are having the final commintee meeting with AA of the semester and they want a small report on the activities of the tier 1 groups, since all the tier 1 groups have at least one member on the committee, Suzaina asked me to do the oral report for the environmental group. This is what I´m planning to say, please let me know if I´m missing something or there is anything else you want me to say. 

1- We had our fisrt planning meeting were we outlined the basic activities we intend to do. 

2-We launched the group with our first event which was the movie screening of "No impact man" followed by a discussion. The movie had around 30 people (mostly mpp)

3- The group had a meeting with the NUS office of sustainability and we´re already working together. 

4- For the group leadership we´re having a meeting at the end of the month, because Rafael was leading the group but he is an exchange student and is leaving. 

5- We are attending the Greens Drink Singapore which is sustainability network.

I think that the leadership thing is complicated, I am afraid to tell them tgat our next meeting will focus on that (they can say thay we should have organized this before). So maybe you could say that we will finalize our agenda for next semester in the next meeting and take decisions about speakers, implementation of actions in bkt campus, the bike thing (tell them that we got the bikes!)...and then you mention that we will have a new election (for rafael's position) :b
