Bikes and water day

Dear all, 

Hope you had a great recess :) 

I wen to meet with Amy (the head of OES) to talk about the bikes and she updated me in their plans for water day here is the summary:

Bikes 

1) They had some issues with the bikes they gave to the guys in KR campus, they are doing a safety, if they conclude that the bikes are safe, they will give us 6 bikes to start our program, they will have the final decision in the next weeks. 

2) We need to start talking with CG management and school to implement it, we would need to fulfill the following:

• We would have to buy the helmets
• Bike racks in CG would have to be put in CG (we can talk to CG management and OES will explore costs) 
  
• Anyone who wishes to sign up for the program will need to attend a safety biking session (done by us) so I was thinking we (you) can make a session at the begining of the semester for anyone who would want to use the bike

The way it will be is not really a bike sharing thing, in practical terms it would be basically free bikes in CG which might not be ideal but is a start :) so in the meantime we have to start working on the proposal to CG management and the school to approve, at the same time we can start working with teh guys from ISUDA and see how we can work together to make it more than free bikes at CG. 

When are you guys free to meet with him? maybe end of this week or next week? 

Water day

1) They celebrate water day on 16 march which is when the Government celebrates it because the real day (22 march) schools are on vacations. 

2) They are doing something around saving water while you shower so the government is giving away some shower time keepers that ring after 5 minutes I think it has the form of a water drop, they told me if we want to do something we can tell them and they can get us some of these timekeepers to give away.

4) They're having a movie screening on march 24 at 6:30 related to water day

Wow, Sue.  Thanks for all the information and follow-up. I thought you said you were in vacation mode still but this update doesn't sound like it. Very exciting! 

A meeting is best for me next week(except Monday).

1) Bikes - Should we wait until OES gives us green light on safety before we talk engage CG Management and school? 

2) Water Day - Thanks for all the good ideas.  So far, we don't have anything planned.  Does anyone want to take a turn at organizing a small event around Water Day - maybe build off the ideas below?  Or Anna, you could ask Dennis to give a lecture on water, perhaps?  Or a panel with Dennis, Biswas (and his new book), etc.? 

Other news;

• Jan did a write-up of Hans-Josef's event and has the presentation which will be submitted to the new website under Student News/Events.  Thanks Jan!
