Hi everyone,

Now the Christmas period is pretty much over, it would be good to really make a start on contributing to this JSR.  I'm still looking for a lead from amongst those who have said they are interested (that's you lot).  You may have seen on the LJC list some guidelines went out about leading the charge on Adopting a JSR, but since I had a number of you also ask me what's involved in leading, I thought I would resend them here so you can see what the next steps could be for us.

Guidelines for JSR Leads:
  1. Update the Adopt a JSR page.

  2. Contact the Spec Lead.

  3. Update the committee of the progress and any concerns.

  4. Send an initial email to interested Adoptees:

    1. Introduce yourself and why you are interested in the JSR.

    2. Briefly explain the JCP process (depending on the familiarity of the adoptees).

    3. Talk about the JSR and its current stage.

    4. Ask them to introduce themselves and why they are interested in the JSR.

  5. Ask interested adoptees to check the details on the Adopt a JSR page and provide opinion.

  6. Email adoptees about java.net projects, mailing lists, conference talks, presentations downloads... Etc related to the JSR and encourage them to participate.

  7. Encourage all technical discussions to happen on the official mailing lists.

  8. Encourage the adoptees to join the Expert Group.

  9. Listen to any ideas/suggestions the adoptees have and push them forward if they are valid.

  10. Create a wiki page for the JSR, by yourself/adoptees.

  11. Give lighting talk(s) about the subject matter and the JSR by yourself/adoptees.

  12. Email the adoptees about updates related to the JSR: eg voting results, availability of drafts...etc.

  13. If appropriate arrange to meet up, possibly at one of the JUG events.

More information on the Adopt a JSR program is here: http://java.net/projects/jugs/pages/AdoptAJSR#Leading_an_Adopt_a_JSR_group

For the time being I am still single point of contact for this "Adopting JSR 343", but since I haven't really used JMS at all and also have other commitments, both directly for work and for the JCP/LJC, I know I can't take the time I need to research what's involved in the JSR and the best steps to take going forward.

The person to successfully herd the cats on this project will get fame, glory, and something interesting to put on their CV*.

*At least one of these claims is true.

Hi Trisha,

I'm ready to work as Lead for JSR.
But, since this is first involvement for me in bigger java community, would be great if somebody provide me mentor guidance if required.

Looking at responsibilities it would be great if somebody also works as Lead, if I am not available for any reason.
Basically what i mean is instead of one Lead we can have 2 or 3, but still at given point in time it will be responsibility of one of them to keep everybody updated.

Thanks & Regards,

I think we should have two leads who can work closely together, that
will prevent things slipping between the cracks and provide
contingency for when work gets busy or life gets in the way.

It might well be that these leads become apparent as time goes on,
people who are more involved than others for example. Let's not let
the whole "lead" thing get in the way, at the moment what this group
needs is someone to find out where the JSR is at the moment and spread
that around so that we can spark interest. We can take it from there.

I can probably be a deputy lead if noone minds.

Hi

I would be happy to be one of the leads for JSR 343 and can spend time
in for this JSR.

Introduction

I have finished my graduation in Computer Science & Engineering (1999)
and been working with Java technologies for more than 11 years. Last 9
years have worked as a Java Consultant in United Kingdom.

I would be comming to meetup on Jan 11 (Code Share) as well as on Jan
17 (Developer Session), we can have a chat.
