Download Subtitle Movies

Ihave tried changing the name of the subtitle after this guide, but it didn't help. I'm not sure if the issue came with the latest update or was present before, as many of my movies have he subtitles embedded into them.

On top of that I can't browse to the subtitle in Kodi, as the path only look for the locale computer and I have the movies lacated on a NAS. I can't even click the path and type in the address my self.

If I run the movie through Embys webinterface the subtitle is shown.

Have the same problem as well! Subtitles just wont show on browser ,tablet,phone app! Was working fine in the last few years but since few days is just gone with the wind! Have tried to update all the devices ,tried to go back versions as well no luck.

I don't know if a log file is needed. If so I need to know how to find it for Emby-Next-Gen, as I don't have any log file option in the configuration as the guide says (but then again guide is for the old Emby). The only place I found some log for Emby was on the Emby server. It that where I'll find the log?

But maybe the problem is with the movie file itself. Because now I can't start it everytime, Kodi just says "One or more items failed to play. Check the log for more information about this message.".

Every once in a while I can run the movie through Kodi, but I haven't figured out what is causing this behavior.

One more thing I have noticed. When I in Kodo are trying to setup the menues for movies, music, pictures and so. Emby sees the library library as a music library.

If I go into skin settings, choose the movie menu then choose to change the action and navigate through add-ons -> vidoes add-ons -> Emby-next-gen -> movies -> movies the text in the action menu changes to "ActivateWindow(Music,library://video/emby_movies_Movies/all.xml/,return).

If I don't choose the sublevel of movies, but instead where I can browser by letter or studio or whatevere, it does show up as a Vidoes library.

Which to me seems like a typo in the code, someone forgot to change library type for all sublevels under videos/movies.

This depends how the nodes are added. Seems you initially added the video lib from next-gen music section. I can check it, but I need exact step by step instructions how you added them in the first place.

Well first in the Emby backend I created a new library. Choose movie as content type, gave it a name and attached the specific folder on my NAS. Added some extra settings like metadata readers, fetchers and language settings, but don't think they mean anything to this problem.

Then I scanned the folder, or it did automatically. I can't remember, but the movie library is shown as movie content in the Emby Library settings.

I also have one for music, which shows as music content. And then one for TV shows, which also shows as TV shows.

Then on my HTPC in emby-next-gen I connected to the server. If I remember correct I sync the libraries.

Then I went to "System skin settings" (running Aeon Nox: SiLVO), go to "Setup the Aeon Nox main menu".

In the "Movies" menu I choose "Change action" where I clikced on "Add-ons", then Video add-ons, then Emby-next-gen, then Movies, then Movies again.

Now it returns to the submenu setup, where at "Change action" it shows the content as music library. If I skip the last Movies step, and just "Create menu item to here" instead is comes up as movie content.

If I choose "A-Z" in the last option, it also returns af music library.

When you add a movie first to a library and you see it appearing after a library scan, when you manually add subtitles (=>not with Emby) after that step , you have to re-scan that library again (with refresh metadata for new and updated files) for Emby to register your manually added subtitles.

I scan the library every time. The srt filenames matches the mkv filenames. When I want to play a movie on tv, it just doesn't start. When I disable the subtitle mode to No subtitles, the movie is playing flawlessly just without the subtitle.

I'm using freenas and Emby server 4.0.2.0

The srt and the mkv file are in the same library.

Hi Luke! I have the same problem on LG OLED65C9PLA tv. So I add the subtitle file with the same name as the movie file to the same folder. Re-scan the server. I start the movie on the tv, and I add the "extra" subtitle and after some "thinking" it starts the english one, not mine. It's also strange that, when I jump to an other part of the movie, it takes very long time and my computer starts to work as hell, this takes around 5-10 seconds. In other case, when I don't add extra subtitle, it works within 1 second, without extra computing. I use a very powerfull new pc with win 10 and it communicates via DLNA with the server. I dont have any idea what can be the problem, can you help me with this?

Hi James and thanks for reply, I have downloaded another .srt subtitle for the same movie and there is no improvement, banding is still there. My guess is that might be something related to the movie. I only have 2 HDR movies for the moment (just building my collection and Amazon is painfully slow to deliver overseas) but the .srt subtitles for the second movie are displaying fine.

The information page for a movie would include a section on Languages, including audio languages and subtitles that are included in this version, so you can see what is available before you make the rent decision.

I think it is something on the server side. The post about a faulty movie file with no track/markers for the subtitle sounds legit? I believe I tried everything I possibly can do by myself. Except resetting the device. Or ask for a refund, which I rather not.

In a single site, we can find dozens of English srts for a single movie. But the srts are different in some way and the main difference which I found is the timing of inappropriate srts don't match with the timing of the movie i.e. either the srt leads or lags when the movie is being played.

First, the video you download can be edited. Those stupid advertisements can be cut out, or "Downloaded from ***" added. Next, after many container conversions (HD->mkv->streaming->mkv again)the alignment of tracks can shift due to bugs in software. Finally, some older subtitles where keyed not by time, but by frame number, and modern codecs have variable frame rate.

But I'd like to think if watching in the original language that the subtitle is correct. Is this the case? Do subtitlers generally stick to the original dialogue and the dubbers play a little looser to match the faces and mouths?

Watching movies in different languages that I can understand, more or less, my point of view (I watch movies that are not in my native language with subs, with my girlfriend who speaks something else, therefore we put subs even when watching a movie in my language :)

But there are other differences not directly linked to the dialogue and language: most of the time, in any language, dubbing - while pretty accurate semantically - loses a ton in the "acting" department ; "dubbers" do say what they have to say, but comparing the original and the dubbed version, usually the latter lacks a lot of the original expressions, tone, intensity... basically the "emotional" message said is pretty different. (exception note: some older movies have great dubbing)

Another difference I noticed is that while the dubbing is (usually) closer to the actual dialogue in terms of phrase length, they tend to "smooth" the language. For instance, in English, the "f*" word appears in the subs, but is not correctly translated in the dubbing, which is softer. Same for other slang words.

The +1 for dubbing is that you can keep your eyes on the movie... (I remember someone (American) talking about the movie "Amelie". He said "that's a nice movie, but I didn't know what is better, watch the movie (and miss dialogue) or read subtitles").
