Often, a trail project gains legitimacy and recognition if there's a
proper name for the project. Hence, most rail trails are named for
the former rail line, The D&H rail trail for example. Bridges often
get named after notable people, like the Dunn-Memorial Bridge, for
example. What famous people could the redeveloped walkway be named
for? William Kennedy, north Albany's most celebrated son - who is
alive and well, and still writing to this day? Any ideas for names?

I've attempted to reach out to local businesses through the downtown
BID, but the LAB is not within their boundaries. Does anyone have a
connection to business owners in this area? Perhaps we could make a
presentation to a group of them about the benefits of bringing bike
and pedestrian traffic their way?

Let's get a discussion going!

interesting, but, though few actually knew were "Livingston" Ave was a year ago , let alone the bridge - by now most people involved actually know what we are talking about.
So until some great other thought comes about - such as some well known hero or politically popular person getting killed crossing the street, etc. we should keep this on the back burner.

Ivan,

Could you elaborate on what you mean by "back burner?" I think it best
to keep building the coalition and seeking out supporters. I fear that
if we take the approach of waiting for superman, that he'll never fly
in and save the day - we can't afford that. The project is being
overseen by Federal Rail. Unless we can really get our campaign up
and running smoothly, and until the silent majority speak up about the
benefits of this project, i don't think we will have leverage to
convince anyone, hero or political force, to join in and 'save the
day.' Thoughts?

Martin et al:
I thought Ivan meant to put just the naming of the walkway on the back burner..?

I only suggested the back burner for a "new" name ..   if we propose a new name for the rebuilt bridge, even if it's most inspired selection, a few will be confused, another few will object to the "name".   As we meet with notables to get support, and we should arrange for those meetings soon, perhaps another name will be so appealing that that it will be worth proposing.

Thanks for the clarification. I was hoping you didn't want to back off
on the advocacy effort!

another idea... i was thinking of soliciting for some graphic desing
help for a logo and materials to make rack cards. pro-bono of course.
