I received a letter from Mr. McEneny in response to my e-mail (two letters for one e-mail) on the LARRB.

He letter states (in my interpretation):
- it's all Gov. Rockefellers' fault (who left office in 1973(!))
- we (NYS) have continued to emphasize highways over bike-ped amenities
- it would be nice if we did something about the bridge
- but . . . I don't see any hope.

For those who got the same form letter, let me know if you have an alternate interpretation.

Lorenz,

I got the form letter, too - as did many others. I think it's
unfortunate - I expected more from McEneny. As it stands the
"gatekeeper" for this project is FRA, and even if it wasn't DOT, CSX,
and Amtrak keep passing the buck anyway. It will just have to mean
that we redouble our efforts to get local 'ducks' in a row until we
can rely on federal representatives.

Have you contacted your county legislator? Albany county seems to be
the lone hold-out. Not for lack of support, but they're just not
moving forward. We need more pressure on them.

Martin;  FRA too is worth badgering - I checked the organization list and unfortunately, I don't recognize any of the players there by now. my contacts probably aged out. Joe Boardman (former DOT Commissioner - and upstate local transit manager)  for one seems not to be at the NRA lineup.

I'm running out of time - I'll be out of the area for a month starting early next week, but I can still send out an e-note to Canastrari and  Breslin - for as much good (or little) as State legislative support can provide at least Canestrari has a bit more power.. can't hurt.  If possible I'll need an updated one page attachment that I can append to the e-mail and send a personal note with it.

as futile as it may seem for now, when some sort of a EIS process is undertaken, even these mild letters will help.
