Obituary: Ellen L. Platz
Jan. 8, 1907 – Jan. 17, 2009

Ellen L. Livingston Plazt, 102, of Pendleton died Saturday, January
17, 2009 at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton.

Mrs. Platz was born January 8, 1907, in Louisville, Nebraska, to Grove
and Nell Keedy Livingston. She graduated from Fairfield High School in
Fairfield, Nebraska in 1925 and was able to attend her 80-year high
school reunion in 2005. She and her sister often sang duets on the
radio station in Clay Center, Nebraska, in the mid-20’s.

She married James Harland Platz on December 24, 1927. Mr. Platz worked
in the radio and TV industry for many years. They lived in Omaha and
Chicago, moving to Oregon in 1948, living in Hood River, Eugene, and
Roseburg before moving to Pendleton in 1956.

She was a homemaker, accomplished seamstress, gardener and cook. She
was very active in her church and always sang in the choir. She and
Mr. Platz were instrumental in starting the bell choir at the First
Christian Church in 1975. She rang in the choir for 16 years until her
failing eyesight forced her to quit. She is well remembered by many
people in the church for the rolls she baked for countless church
dinners. For many years she taught crafts at local nursing homes.

Survivors include daughter Pat Morris of Pendleton, son Jim Platz, Jr.
of Crooked River Ranch, Oregon, 6 grandchildren, 12 great-
grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, and
her brother.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 7th at 3 p.m. at
the First Christian Church,in Pendleton. Memorial contributions may be
