North Bay Jobs with Justice:
If you missed the Press Democrat reporting on the Rohnert Park planning commission hearing concerning the proposed super center please see the links below. Much thanks to everyone who participated in the mobilization and attended the meeting. We had about 30-35 opponents in the audience wearing "No Wal-Mart in Our Community" stickers and 17-18 speakers -- far more than Wal-Mart -- and a credible turnout given the short notice. We will appeal to the city council which will likely consider the super center in late September or early October.More details to follow.

Foes and Fans of Wal-Mart Set to Square Off
by Matt Brown
Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer, is rekindling a controversial plan to expand its Rohnert Park location and create the North Bay’s first so-called supercenter — a retail space big enough to encompass three football fields and offer shoppers a full array of groceries along with the store’s existing selection of consumer goods, ranging from electronics to diapers.

Planners Approve Wal-Mart Expansion
by Elizabeth Cozin
The Rohnert Park Planning Commission voted Thursday night to approve a controversial plan by Wal-Mart to expand its store on Redwood Drive by 35,000 square feet, adding a grocery to the existing outlet.
“Legally, I think Wal-Mart has a right to expand, and I think it will be good for our town,” Planning Commission Chairman Gerard Giudice said before the vote was held.
About 35 people voiced their views during the public comment portion of the meeting, held to consider whether to recommend the proposal to the City Council.
