Me and soph were out in town a couple of weeks ago, and we went to
superstar like we always do, and were a bit sad not to see julie there
:( We went and found our usual seat near the end of the bar in the
other room, and after a while i suddenly realised there were loads and
loads of straight men in there. It was really weird, it's always been
pretty mixed but I've never seen it like that. I didn't feel threatened
or anything, it wasn't like yate's. Just seemed to be a really
different crowd. Loads of blokes of the sort you wouldnt expect, some
of them seemed a bit confused by a couple of trannies who weren't done
up like drag queens. We ended up in g-bar which i've not been to in
months, it hadn't changed at all :)

Has anyone else seen that recently in boudoir? is it going "mainstream"?

I've been told a couple of times that the Boudoir was trying to pull in
"mainstream" punters, hen parties etc

I've been in the Boudoir once !!!!! and had a great time with a friend
visiting from Bristol who for some reason wanted to explore Liverpool
!!!!

However, too noisy for anything other than dance ( my hearing isnt what
it used to be ....)

I've been at the budoir A LOT since I moved here in May. I can certainly
say that it's changed quite a bit in that short amount of time. It's
definitly gotten more mainstream, to the point where I can see a moment in
the future when I'm having to remind someone what the rainbow flags are
doing out front.

I used to go there every time I went out, just about evey friday and
saturday night, but I haven't been going there much lately. The crowds just
aren't as fun as they once were. One night I saw some big straight guy,
probbaly in his 40's, yelling in the street at one of the doormen at the
masquerade bar, calling him a faggot and what not, then I saw the same guy
at superstar later that night. That's when I knew the crowd had certainly
changed!

It's funny, I've met lots of gay and lesbian people going out on the
weekends, and if I ever even mention going to the budoir they immediately
don't want to go there. Oh well, I'll still pop in there from time to time,
but these days I've been spending my time elsewhere! There are plenty of
other fun places to hang out.

So then, if Superstar Boudoir is out... where to for an ex-pat swanning back for a brief holiday in October?

Last time I was in the Lisbon, I was 17!

Is Garlands still gay/mixed?

Garlands is one place I have yet to get to, so I can't shed any light on how
it is these days. Typically I start out my nights at the Masquerade bar,
(still the most fun crowd in town if you ask me!) and head off to wherever
depending on who I see at masquerade. These days it's been Foundation
(formerly Patrick's) Navy Bar, or G-bar.

Navy can be fun (but watch your drink!), g-bar can be fun as well, but it
seems to get PACKED these days. Personally I've been liking Patrick's
because it's easy to just hang out in front and talk to people and stuff and
if you want to dance there's the dance floor in the back and also
downstairs. Drinks seem a little more reasonable there as well. I'm the
type of person who likes to go out, drink, meet people and chat, not a big
dancer, so Patrick's works well for that.

I'd like to hang out more at the Lisbon, but dammit it's WAY too bright in
there! In the back it's not so bad but up front where most people are
hanging out it's really freaking bright.

Bar du Fay on Stanley street looks interesting as well. I haven't been
there yet but the upstairs looks nice from outside the window, like a wine
bar, and who knows what it's like downstairs. I don't know if it's more of
a early evening place, lunch time food, or if the downstairs bar is open
late. Maybe some detective work is in order to see what's going on in
there. I do know they have open mic night on Monday's, maybe I'll have to
pop into one of those to get a feel for the vibe there.

So I guess that's my not-so-complete guide to the liverpool scene at the
moment, as always, I'll know more after this weekend!

Garlands is pretty straight too, its just a mainstream camp club. I've
always liked g-bar, mixed but its a much more down to earth crowd, you
won't get any abuse. Navy is good, lisbon is too bright but its ok, I
always find the masq a bit claustrophobic. Not been to patricks or bar
du fay. Curzon and addiction are no go.

I'm not really out on the scene that much so take jenis word over mine.
The good thing is though that everywhere is close together and they're
usually free entry so you can always change your mind :)

went along to the Superstar last night (Thursday) with Rachel, at about
9.30 pm, were sent on to what was Patricks as "not many folk here yet
girls', come back in an hour " !!!!

We didn't go back as I couldn't stay out late that night.
