Schedule and expectation clarifications

Hi everyone

Hope you are all holding up ok.  I recognize that this is NOT what any of us signed up for, and we are all adjusting (building resilience maybe????).  Ach, but here we are.  I wanted to send some clarifications - some general, some specific to Main Lesson.

EXPECTATIONS

Assignments. I expect students to do work that is assigned, and I will contact the student, and at times parents, if much work is missing.  

On the other hand, as noted, we didn't sign up for this, so we are simply using a 3 point grading scale and I have significantly lowered  the workload (for example, were we in school, we would do an experiment EVERY day and write it up!) to lower stress and account for variable household schedules.

I WILL give feedback on assignments as needed to keep you/your students on track for starting high school next year -you/ they may or may not revise your/their work based on this feedback, but at least you/they will know the expectations coming up next year.

Attendance:  This was somewhat confusing at first, but as you know,  we are being asked to check in that we have interacted with students each week.  It is not clear whether that means directly, or whether submission of finished work counts.  Personally, I am checking in that I have "seen" you if I have "seen" your work in some way.  This may change given direction from the office.

SCHEDULE CHANGE

Out of the desire to "see" everyone, as well as to impart understanding of concepts that are better offered directly when students can ask clarifying questions,  or comment and engage, the Wednesday physics schedule has been modified somewhat to include actual class time. 

I posted this modification on Tuesday on the "stream" (first page) of the physics google classroom - however, not everyone got the message.  It's hard to know the most effective way to communicate!

So here it is:

9:30 AM:  Zoom Classroom. 20 minutes.  I will TRY to record this and upload it, but my upload speeds are REALLY slow, so it may not be possible on the same day.  (FYI - I only store recordings on my hard drive, and I am told that is safe, but will revise if needed).

10:00 AM : Zoom "discussion"/office hours Group 1.  This is where we work through questions with a smaller number of students. NOT RECORDED

10:30 AM : Zoom "discussion"/office hours Group 2.  This is where we work through questions with a smaller number of students. NOT RECORDED

GROUP 1:

Please do not switch groups without my approval (you are welcome to ask and explain why). 

This schedule will also show up again on your STREAM on Monday.
